Question about Samsung HCM4215W 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

HCM4215W convergence issue

I changed the sub PCB red and the main convergence board last fall and all has been GREAT ever since.
Now if i try to enter Mute+182 the menu does not show up and my convergence is all screwed up again. Also the power DOWN tones are gone , but stil get the 6 or so ascending power up tones.
Do you think i need yet another main convergence board?
if so i may still be under warranty.
any help would be welcome, and you can also email me directly at
thanks alot in advance.

Mute 183 power.

You may have done alignment previously in service mode and not initialized or saved correctly. add/erase saves

The test for convergence ICs working is if the V and H can be adjusted for all colors in different picture quadrants. The adjustment may be so far off that it looks broken.

There may be low ohm resistors that have increased in value. Some Samsung chassis use low ohm resistors that have built in Zener diodes for stabilizing the voltage drop across the resistor. Replacing with ordinary resistors (as the schematic shows) may cause poor convergence that can be adjusted after warming up, but always varies noticeably when going from cold to hot.

Using the correct part number from Samsung will ensure that the right part is in place.

When 1 or 2 ICs fail with no resistor damage, only small or no adjustment is necessary (if the replacement ICs are well made and imitate the original). When resistors burn and are replaced, adjustment is required more often than not.

Call someone that has aligned and repaired numerous Samsung RPTVs and your problems will be over.

Are you saying that after installing a new convergence board, you still have the same issue? If that's the case, another new board isn't going to resolve this. Also, you can't do a factory reset. Doing that would lose all the convergence and geometry data in the TV and would require a qualified technician hours of work to restore the settings. If you've installed a new board and have the same problem, suspect a problem in the TV's power supply. All convergence circuits require 2 voltages to operate. There will be a postive and a negative voltage of the same value. If you're missing either of these voltages, your convergence will never work properly.

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

If you mean they are separated like a 3-D effect, then you have the typical bad convergence IC problem. There are two IC's mounted on a large metal heatsink, they will have STK392-###, the ### being differant models of TV sets. these are soldered into place and are no usually replaced by the user, unless you have solid state repair experience, knowe how to solder, have a schematic on the set, and know the High voltage safty factors of projection TV serviceing. If you have no experience, please play it safe, and get someone who is trained to service TV sets. Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.
