Question about Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router

Has router failed?

Yesterday both home computers on linksys etherfast cable/dsl 4x (wired) could no longer get online. If I bypass the router, then my computers can get online. The indicator lights on router indicate it "sees" the computers and the computers "see" the router (if I shut down the router, my computer "announces" that it lost the connection and when I power the router back up the message goes away). I've also reset the router for no change. I have Comcast cable. Everything I've checked from the IP address to speed seems okay. Could the router be caput and needs replacing?

The first question that needs to be answered is if your computer still gets an IP address from the router.
First reset the router.
Press the reset for 30 seconds then let go and then pull out the power. plug the power back in.
On the computer wired to the router.
1. Click start then run then type in CMD
2. Type in IPCONFIG
3. Check if you still get an IP.

You need to find out if you have connectivity to the router from each PC and if each PC can still contact the other PC. This will verify that at least your physical layer connections, (the cables, PC's and router) are all connected and functioning at at least IP and DHCP level. Do this from all computers, you said you have 2? Reset router, (unplug it for 15 seconds then plug it back in), first, then reboot/reset/restart both PC's or you can just type at a command prompt on each one and type: IPCONFIG /RENEW ALL then IF you get an IP you should see if you can ping the default gateway for each computer and each computer. If you are not computer friendly just do the restart/reset/reboot thing. Once you have finished those steps do an IPCONFIG command and this will tell you your Default Gateway, (your router's IP address, and your PC that you ran the command from IP address.


Then use the PING ***.***.*** (the *** need to be replaced with the ip for example 192.168.0.1 or whatever ) command to ping your router(default gateway), and your other computer once you know it's IP as well. IF you get back 4 lines saying <10 msec response then all your equipment is wired find, and your router is also at least functioning at DHCP/IP level of the OSI troubleshooting model. Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

My Etherfast cable/dsl router keeps getting disconnected although my cable modem says still online. What's wrong with it?


Base from the description of your problem this is a firmware issue on your router and to correct it will be better if you do a firmware upgrade on it , you can follow the steps from this link on how to update the firmware of the router.

Dsl goes out when i plug it up to router.will comunicate between computer but no internet


Are you able to go online when connected to the modem ?
IF you are able to go online when connected to the modem.
Check the settings of the router.

put the internet cable and ethernet cable in lan port then try to ping the google or yahoo or something else like that start-->run--->ping google.com -t

Cant get to internet thru linksys etherfast cable/dsl router


Reset the modem while the router is plugged into it. Do this by disconnecting the power to the modem and then reconnecting.
