Get Windows CD with a proper license and try to install the Windows fresh by reformatting the system. Before that you would need to backup your drivers. For that use http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/ which is a free software. However, the downside of this method is that you won't get any of the additional software that came included with the system, if you did get any.

I have an Insignia d400a, given to me by my mother. I know it discontinued but i needed a pc so i wanted to wipe the hard drive with the dvd and Im having a really hard time. I reconfigured the BIoS to run...

It should be able to boot from the DVD or CD rom drives before checking the hard drive by default, but somebody could have changed bios settings which could cause it to not work. The factory (OEM) restore disk is DVD media, so you would need to use the DVD drive.

F2 during bootup to enter BIOS and check your boot sequence to make sure that the DVD drive comes before the hard drive. Also, the card reader on D400's tend to fail and no longer work, so it may be a good idea to dissable that from the boot sequence. The card reader can usually be found as a USB device in the boot sequence menu.

How to restore to factory

Factory restore requires the OEM restore DVD disk.

First boot the PC and press F2 during boot to enter BIOS. Change BIOS settings to factory default, to make sure the boot device sequence and all other settings are as they should be.
Then insert the Restore DVD into the DVD-rom drive and save & exit BIOS settings. It should then reboot and load from the restore disk.

How do i restore my hp hdx18 to factory install settings? completely wipe it

Turn the computer off.
Turn the computer on, and look for a message like "press BLAH to enter System Recovery".
When you see the message, press the BLAH key.
This will start a complete "restore-to-factory" install of Windows.

Or, if you have a set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks from HP, then insert the 1st disk,
restart your computer, and select to boot your computer from the CD/DVD drive.

Or, there may be software already on your computer that lets you "burn" a set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks -- have 10 CD-R disks, and 5 DVD-R disks -- you may need to use most of these "blank" disks.

Need restore dvd for insignia d400a

You can buy it from DELL. They will send it to you for between $20 to $40. Sounds like you have spyware though.

Turn the system restore off. System restore keeps everything in restore. Meaning......... If you have spyware or a virus, it will stay in your system. Run Spybot S&D (This program is free and is better than using msconfig as long as you go through the settings and change everything to the highest settings.) Then do the same with Adaware 2008 (sounds stupid to use 2 things for spyware, but one catches what the other one does not.). I have links on my website (tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com). These links go directly to the download so you will not get the run around. You would do good to try a program called Window Washer. This is a great program that completely cleans anything in your computer that you do not need. It will not clean out anything that you have to have. I have used this for years to clean out my customers computers and have cleaned as much as 3 gigs of trash out. If you contact me I will give you some tools that I have for free that will do a great job on your computer. I have them ready to download and I will give you the link. ([email protected])
