Hi, it appears that CDW/DVDROM is only detected in BIOS but in normal windows. This is a known issue from Microsoft eventhough you are using Windows Xp or Vista the CDW/DVDROM is not detected and does not appear in My computer icon. This can be easily fixed by a registry tweaks.

Please click on this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us and then delete the upper/lowerfilters which is blocking the CDW/DVDROM to appear on your windows.

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks

Except_handler4_common msvcrt.dll xp download

Option (1)
To resolve this issue, use the Windows XP Recovery Console to replace the Msvcrt.dll file with the original version. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert your Windows XP CD-ROM into the computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer from the CD-ROM.

NOTE: Some computers may require that you modify the basic input/output system (BIOS) settings before you can start the computer from a CD-ROM. For information about how to modify BIOS, see your computer documentation.
  2. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to start the Recovery Console.
  3. Press the number key that corresponds to the installation that you want to repair, and then press ENTER.
  4. Type the Administrator password, and then press ENTER.
  5. With the Windows XP CD-ROM still in the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:
    • cd system32
    • ren msvcrt.dll msvcrt.old
    • CD-ROM_or_DVD-ROM_Drive_Letter:
    • cd \i386
    • expand msvcrt.dl_ BootDriveLetter:\windows\system32
    • exit
NOTE: BootDriveLetter refers to the drive letter of the boot drive. In other words, it refers to the drive where the Windows folder is located, which is probably drive C. CD-ROM_or_DVD-ROM_Drive_Letter refers to the drive letter of the CD-ROM or the drive letter of the DVD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM drive or the DVD-ROM drive are frequently located in drive D.
Option (2)
Fix the registry issue with ADV Tweaks Suite Free.

Trying to boot from windows CD and not working

If its the full windows xp cd by booting it from the cd drive it will erase everything and ask if you want to upgrade or advanced install I think. Your correct in choosing the atapi cd-rom as 1st boot device. The cd should be in the drive on startup. IDE is the type of hard disk drive. I'm guessing the FDD stands for floppy disk drive which you might not have that many but you have that many bay windows available.

Put disk in, shut down computer, Start computer and it should give you the xp disk contents. Be aware of data loss though.

'''c:\program filesa\ECSspecialisTfilter\shooter.exe'''

well im guessing that its a virus just wanting to cause you to get upset. deal is virus protection wont always...sometimes flat out wont work if you already have a virus creepin behind the scences!
i had this isssue once and all i had to do was use my RECOVERY DISC to set it to factory setting. Mine was 2 dvd discs and i had a dvd burner of course. but thats only when i bought it. it says you should make one and i did and i simply start it like the day i bought it! your harddrive will be erased but ensures that the virus wont be in the hard drive anymore. my computer has 2 70gb hard drives and i simply moved my favorite files to the other hardrive which doesnt have my OS on it!

So if you dont have a recovery disc then your best option is this! your number on you pc either near the back, side or front on a sticker has a code that is yours to keep for life.. if its Windows Xp home or xp pro or xp OFFICE then that OS is yours and now you need to either find a windows installer disc that has your OS.

So if you happen to have a windows disc with ur OS you can use that to reinstall ur OS with its NUMBER and it will WIPE UR HARDDRIVE CLEAN BUT FIXS ALMOST ANY PROBLEM> LIKE THE DAY YOU BOUGHT IT. some just start up while windows runs . some computers you need to put the disc in ur cd or dvd rom and then start restart ur computer and hit the commands at the begining! its either F2, F10 or any F set it says! either chose boot from ur DVD or CD rom and hit ok or enter. or for some users go to BIOS SETUP ]F2[ for most all comps then find where boot squence is and set ur DVD or CD rom as the first to boot from! but make sure when ur done installing ur os change it to ur hardrive. o make sure that you know you can transfer your key files you want to keep to a external device!

So if you dont have a CD or DVD windows installer if you have a CD or DVD burner you can downlaod a WINDOWS XP HOME ISO bootable image and use a A PROGRAM THAT LETS YOU BURN BOOTABLE ISOs TO A CD[ IPREFER CD DUE TO XP HOME OR XP PRO OR XP OFFICE IS ONLY AROUND 600MBS dvds may not work.. torrents can help you find ISOs here is home if that what u have

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5063617/Windows_Xp_Home_Edition

. BITTORRENT as spelled google it and then download install it then go to

http://www.bittorrent.com/btusers/download/?

thepiratebay.org and search for your OS then download it and chose bittorrent as the program to open and it will download and it will be in MY documents then downloads. use the cd burning program to mount the file the use it as a windows installer disc! sorry if this doesnt help! i hope this works out! remember ur download your OS and that ur hardraive will be erased to ensure a clean hardrive

My drive wont read or anything

Go here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_1100&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid

Select what operating system you have (xp or vista) then scroll down to where it says "CD/DVD" and choose your specific cd-rom drive model.

Download the firmware and run it. It should function after that.

(Also if you don't know your Cd-Rom drive model, right click on My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> Scroll down to DVD/CD-ROM drives and check out the model number.) Hope this helps! :)
