Clothes jam into metal rim at bottom of machine

I have a kenmore oasis model 27032602.
My clothes are being ruined because they become jammed in the metal rim at the base of the drum.
There's no way to get a clothing item out of the drum than to gently pull on it. This very often leaves a hole in the fabric. I have ruined many shirts.
