Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn't squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle also, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can't spray, just re-fasten it down.

Dear Sir: I just purchased a Bissell Rug Shampooer at a garage sale. The only thing I find for a model is on the back and it says Model 1695 there. Nothing on front. It is Navy blue and has a grey...

There is a flapper door that blocks suction when the pickup tank is full so water won't be drawn into the motor. Sometimes that flapper will shut off too soon and stop the suction. The Bissel web page has all the parts you'll need to fix it.

Dirty Water drops behind shampooer

You are over sudsing your recovery tank. The machine is made to shut off the air flow if water starts to be pulled into the motor, but bubbles want trigger that. So if there are a lot of bubbles in your recovery tank, the get sucked into the motor (Which will destroy it eventually) and then the moisture gets exhausted onto the floor from the motor.

Solutions
1. Use less soap (Read the directions, you may be using too much)
2. Use a different kind of soap (The concentration might not be right for your machine)
3. Use a defoamer (Rug Doctor has a defoamer)

Bissell power washer 1694 shampooer

First off is the gasket on the bottom of the tank vavle or sitting in the hole. It has to be on the bucket. May have a problem with the handle not pushing the valve (in the handle)open when you squeeze the trigger. Check the back end of the top cover to make sure it hasn't broken loose from the base, if it has, that raises the top so water won't dispense from the tank. The draw back is that Bissell has obsoleted some parts for this model.
