The radar keeps does not turn on when i plug it in. i tried it in a different car and nothing happens. Also, there is a piece inside that is moving around. I carefully opened up the unit and found that it was the button for the MUTE on the actual radar. I know how it fits in but if i put it back in will it fix the radar? how do i put the piece back on?

Press IN on the power/volume button. Its possible that the Vehicle battery saver feature kicked in and turned off the unit. THis status remains in the unit's memory so plugging/unplugging the power cord does not correct it. You need to press IN on the power/volume button to turn it on.
The outside diameter of the power ports in cars varies slightly. If there's too much "slop" between the port and the plug, you'll have the indication you're seeing. Try wedging a some card board or similar between one side of the port and plug to help keep pressure on the side contacts - and keep the plug from falling out of the port.
You may even wish to hard wire the detector to your car's switched accessory terminal. This will remove the power port from the the equation and the detector will turn off when the engine is off, and automatically turn on when the engine is running.
Check the fuse inside the cigarette lighter adapter that came with your V1. You'll have to pop the top off with the hinge to access a hidden screw (star pattern). Total of 3 screws. Inside you should find a 2 amp mini blade fuse, your V1 should have come with an extra fuse (mine did). I had the same issue, no power, changed the fuse and power cord, powered right up.
I am having the same problem. I just did the software upgrade and the dector now turns off and it must be unpluged then pluged back in and it will only operate around 5 minutes then you have to do it all over again. It appears to be a product problem with software down loads.
First try a factory reset - hold in the power button and the quiet button, while holding in these buttons plug in the power cord, THe unit will beep twice and show FACTORY RESET on the screen, then give it a test.
When a radar or laser is detected, the unit will make noise. As you get closer to the source of the radar or laser, the noise will get louder and the signal levels (if you have a detector that shows signal level) will get stronger.
Since police officers like to wait until you are close to them, they may keep their radar guns turned off until you are very close to them. Once they turn it on, you are likely to be busted unless you can REALLY slow down quickly. Most radar guns take a series of average measurements on the speeding car. If the samples are too far apart, it keeps looking for a series of successive speeds that are close. This happens in a few tenths of a second.
SO even if you hear a SLIGHT noise from your detector, it may have been from a brief instant on radar gun in front of you, so BEWARE until you are sure that there is no threat.
The valentine detectors use multiple antennas to tell you where the signal is coming from. This is handy.
Police usually do not leave their radar guns turned on all of the time. Indeed, most police officers prefer to use the "instant-on" technique to nab speeders. Instant-on works by leaving the radar gun in standby mode (no radar emissions) and then releasing a trigger button to instantly turn on the radar gun to measure a vehicle's speed.
You can check to see if your radar detector is detecting radar by putting it in Highway mode and then driving to a shopping center or other businesss location which has microwave radar automatic door openers. You should get either X band or K band alerts for these microwave automatic door openers. If you do not get any alerts for these door openers, and after having checked a few other locations which have microwave automatic door openers, then this would indicate that your radar detector is defective.
For what its worth a few years ago I had a similar problem. Turned out the car 12V socket I was plugging into didn't work. Quickest way to figure that out is to take it to another car and try it there.
