With windows xp try going to start/run/msconfig/startup tab. uncheck anything you see that says hp. If your not sure what to un check just go to IE & look it up. It's pretty safe to uncheck all but AntiViruse / AntiSpyware startups, on a PC. Laps are alittle different.

System 32 missing

You need the Restoration Disk. (CD) When asked perform a Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation) The basic Windows files will be repaired.
System 32 is the basic Windows files.

Now, what is the computer manufacturer name, and Model Number?
The model number is on the back of the computer tower, next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the computer tower.

[ Example for an HP Desktop PC; it is in a white Service Tag, and you want the Product Number. P/N = Product Number. If it is an HP computer, you can easily obtain the Restoration Disk/s. I will guide you]

When I turn on my HP Pavillion dv6000 it starts up but when it gets to the screen where you type in your password its black with the cursor on it.

marissalynn5, use the Restoration Disk, and choose Non-Destructive Installation when asked. (Repair)

If you do Not have the Restoration Disk (CD);

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship. $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Call HP Support's toll-free phone number 1-800-474-6836.
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Tell the representative that you need the Restoration Disk.
The representative may ask for the Product Number, or the Serial Number.

This is on the Bottom of the laptop in the white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number
S/N = Serial Number

Turn the laptop on, install the disk in the DVD optical drive, close the drive tray. Perform the above.

If you are not in the USA, here is HP Support Worldwide contact information,

[ If I may. If you are not in the USA, and obtain the Restoration Disk, may I ask how support treated you, and the cost of shipping of the disk? Was the disk free? ]

If using the Restoration Disk does not cure the problem, then I have bad news.

The HP Pavilion dv2000 series, Pavilion dv6000 series, and dv9000 series, have an inherent problem with the graphics chip.

This video explains the problem, and the repair, and possible warranty work by HP,

Hp product assistant opens at start up and it says that it is looking for the hp product disk.

Insert the HP Product Disk into the CD/DVD drive.

Or, run the pre-installed utility to "burn" your own set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks.

How can i clean my comp. drivers for free

If you drive an automobile with "used" tires, rather than buying new tires every week, then keeping the current device-drivers is fine, as long as your computer is not giving you any problems.

All those "driver-tuneup" products are *NOT* needed. Period.
Ignore all the "marketing-hype".

Re: Notepad format HDD

You can use any disk as long as you own the license code. Do you know the type of virus and it's name. I could possibly help with a removal tool or advice if I know more.
