When I go to print or copy the machine makes a loud clicking noise and then says paper jam. Brother MFC - 8460 N

Hello,
The loud clicking noise is either the toner cartridge or the paper feed. If the jam occurs in the drum and toner cartridge then I recommend changing the toner.
If the paper is not being fed at all then you need to have the paper feed kit replaced.
Thanks,
Pat

We have a brother fax machine and it makes a loud clicking noise we think the brushes are broke

There may be several reasons for the clicking noise

1. May be paper clips or other foreign material got stuck inside
2. May be a piece of paper got stuck inside and is somewhat causing this problem
3. May be after having removed a paper jam, some parts within the machine got loose.

The most evident situation is to have a quick look, without disassembling the equipment.
If still the problem persists, then it's better to have the equipment checked by a professional.

Grunting noise?

If your machine is a Brother 4100 you can clear the drum message by pulling the drum out of the machine and then pressing the clear button. The display will ask if a new drum is the be installed. Press the number 1 to say yes. Reinstall drum. This resets the drum counter.

As far as the grunting sound, that may be caused by a tight or jammed toner cartridge. Try changing that out.

Hope this helps.

Recieving fax error

It could be a bad drum unit. If the drum doesnt turn smoothly it will make a clicking or grinding noise since it is gear driven. Take out the drum and turn the gear with your thumb. turm towards you. If difficult Thats it. It also could be a fuser gear. good luck Lawrence

Outgoing fax makes loud clicking noise

2 different problems here. 1st is with document feed and 2 is with paper feed.

1st prob seems to be with the paper feed roller not meshing at the gear. Probably a broken piece on the lower document tray assembly. No real fix for this unless you can strip it out and haywire it.

2nd prob is probably a poorly meshing drum unit. Examine the gear teeth on both the drum and the machine. As you have replaced the drum already (presumably with a brand new one) You might possibly find a missing or badly worn tooth on the messhing gear in the machine.
