Following up on my previous posting. Upon disassembly of GE microwave I find the large "discharge fans" are not working, turntable motor does rotate, oven light is on, transformer fan works, no smells, no obvious melted components, digital display works fine, but no heating of water-food-etc.

Also, the ceramic fuse in fuse holder test good

Any clues?? Perhaps door microswitches?? Both upper & lower switches "click" when door latch hit microswitch, does "click-sound" mean switches are OK?

Do I need to test door switches and/or magnetron??

    Thanks for any assistance...

Not only does my GE Microwave ovcen nopt heat, its main discharge fan stopped working during the same timeframe.

Capacitor, magnetron or diode involved with main discharge fan operation at same time as heating function?

    Thanks,

    Glen

When the microwave won't heat, but you hear a loud buzz, you usually have a defective power diode, high-voltage capacitor, or magnetron. We recommend that you consult with a qualified appliance repair technician for help in determining the problem and deciding what to do about it.

Check the magnetron with a digital multimeter to ensure its getting power, if it is then change but its not working then change the magnetron, if it isnt continue backward tracgint the components from the magnatron back until you find where you are getting power, try to insolate which component isnt working by this method..

my money is on the magnetron

XL1800 buzzes but heats

If the magnetron was making louder noises prior then replace the magnetron. While the cabinet is open make sure to look for burned wires, check the continuity of thermal cutoffs, and check the main circuit-board for burned traces or components. The relays in most electronics are known for arcing (spot welding) and staying in the wrong position. Tap them hard with the back end of a screwdriver.
You may have to replace the capacitor too. During all of this use safe electrical practices by having the power cord unplugged. The capacitor could still have a high charge on it so be careful.

Buzzing sound... Turntable stopped. food heats up but uneven. No microwave fan when heating.. no light inside expensive fix?? Unit is 10 years old

If the microwave oven is 10 years old then it is time to consider a new unit, by your description it is going into cascade failure where different parts have stopped working, the buzzing sound is the magnetron warning you, it is about to fail. The fans job is to keep the magnetron cool while it is running.

Ge microwave jvm160wj01 was working and suddenly started buzzing, gave bad electric/burnt smell and buzzes. Still buzzes and does not seem to heat now.

Sounds like the magnetron just shorted out. Its the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. Buzzing sounds are a symptom of a shorted mag. Usually not worth fixing since the magnetron costs almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

Ge spacemaker xl 1800 - no heat

HI, the loud popping noise was the Magnetron tube. this is the main heating device. the noise filter is also damaged and, should be replaced as well.

In conclusion, replacing the Magnetron tube and noise filter will fix this unit.

Everything works except heat

Sounds like you've had a failure in the microwave portion of the unit.

Microwave not heating problems when the timer/controller board appears to function properly, are related to the following components -

1) Diode
2) Capacitor
3) Transformer
4) Magnetron

GE Over range microwave, JVM1660

This just happened to ours as well. Apparently the magnetron (device that creates radio waves that heat the food) is broken. I'm trying to pry the darn thing out of our kitchen now so I can replace the magnetron. Look for this part WB27X10489 on Google. I found it on ebay for $65. If it fixes the problem I'll post again.
