The factory reset disc can be carried by calling the tech support hotline and they will process the inventoryu for the listing of the recovery disc. If they will find it, the recovery disc does not come for free for it has a charged for shipping and handling. ;P

No arranca windows por el problema de windows root\system32 \hal.dll.

Hi! Welcome to www.fixya.com.
You need to get an Windows Operating system XP
Option 1:
Boot from your CD and follow the directions to start Recovery Console. Then:
Attrib -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini DEL C:\Boot.ini BootCfg /Rebuild Fixboot
Option 2:
Boot from your CD and follow the directions below to start Recovery Console.
Insert the Setup compact disc (CD) and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console. When prompted, type the Administrator password. (if you didn't create one try pressing enter).
At the system prompt, type Recovery Console commands; type help for a list of commands, or help commandname for help on a specific command.
Most likely you will need to expand the file from the CD. The command would be expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll. Substitute d: for the drive letter of your CD. Once you have expanded the file type "exit" to exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.
TIP: Recovering Windows XP using the Recovery Console

I have a e-system laptop i brought it off my farthing law but there was no recovery disc so could i set it back to factory settings

Depending on the particular model and version of Windows there are several options to reset to the factory settings.
Many laptops come with software to make recovery discs. Generally if you search for something like "Recovery media creation" in the start menu (sometimes is in a folder named after the manufacturer), it will let you create discs to reset to default.
Some modern (generally late Vista, or Windows 7 era computers) have a recovery partition. Booting to it will vary by brand and model. Some list it under boot options even. If you have problems finding it and think it has one, please comment with your model number and I'll try to look up specific instructions.
Two last options are to either order recovery media from the manufacturer or install a clean copy of Windows (this isn't recommended as finding drivers can be an issue).
Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

How do I factory reset my Toshiba Tecra A3-s611?

If your computer is new enough to have this option try this ... http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
Otherwise your computer doesn't have a "recovery partition" (basically a portion of your storage dedicated to being able to restore your computer) and you would require the factory recovery discs. If you have them, when you first turn the computer on and see the "Toshiba" screen press F12, which will allow you to select "CD/DVD", and do so with the first recovery disc inserted in your dvd drive.
If you don't have recovery discs you will need to make or order them, to make them look in your start menu for Toshiba Recovery disk creator and that will guide you through the steps.

I have a vaio VGN-SR220J notebook. I tried to do a complete recovery with the recovery disc I made when I first purchased it in March 2009. However after the first disc, it told me to insert the second one...

Hi devil_ameet,

The issue may be with the Recovery Discs that you created. I would suggest that you try accessing the Recovery Partition in the Computer by pressing and holding the F10 Key while restarting the Computer. If you see a "Edit Boot Options" screen, please press the Enter Key. This would trigger the Computer to the VAIO Recovery Center which is present in the hidden partition of the Hard Drive. There, in the VAIO Recovery Center, please select the "Restore C: Drive" option to perform the Recovery.

If the Recovery Partition is not present in the Computer, the Recovery Discs are the only option to perform the Recovery. In that case, we can try resetting the BIOS to the default values, disconnecting the external Devices connected to the Computer and resetting the RAM Modules to troubleshoot the issue. Please let me know if you can access the Recovery Partition and perform the System Recovery.

Please let me know if you have any questions and require any further assistance.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a hp notebook and need to reset it to its factory settings, i dont have an external disc drive so cannot use recovery discs, how do i reset it or what button do i need to press

Most of the HP laptops have inbuilt recovery partition. We need to create recovery discs using this partition. We can even restore the notebook to factory settings using recovery manager.
Even the sony laptops have inbuilt recovery partitions.

Hi.

As the Recovery Partition in the Hard Drive is not working, you may try performing a BIOS reset.

Performing a BIOS reset should resolve any issues related to the Recovery Partition.

Please open the below link to view the steps to perform a BIOS reset:

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C94679

As the Operating System installed in the Computer is Windows Vista, you may also try performing the "Windows Startup Repair".

Please open the below link to view the steps to perform the Windows Startup Repair:

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C1002354

Please try performing both the steps which I have mentioned above.

Performing the above steps should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists, then the issue might be due to the Recovery Partition

The Files in the Recovery Partition might have been corrupted.

However, you may also perform the System Recovery by purchasing the Recovery Discs online.

You may purchase the Recovery Discs for the Computer by visiting the below link:

https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/productSearch.do?searchOperation=partSearch&searchText=Y8316061A&sessionId=ddyNo-T9pA_dxgMgnzHn_WX

Once you have obtained the Recovery Discs, you may perform the System Recovery.

Please open the below link to view the steps to perform the System Recovery using the Recovery Discs:

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C460645

Please try performing all the steps which I have mentioned above.

Performing all the above steps should resolve the issue.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to contact for further information and assistance.

Reset the BIOS to the default value then try again using the Recovery discs.

If the issue persists then the problem may be with the recovery discs. In this case, you may contact the Computer manufacturer to obtain another copy of the recovery discs.
