Sony VX1000 Recording Problem

Hi All,

I have had a Sony VX-1000 for the last five years and up until now have had no problems. I have used exclusively JVC tapes. Last month I noticed that every few seconds on the tape there would be macro block errors [square pixelated blocks] and the sound would also cut out. I figure there head needed cleaning, so I bought the Sony Head cleaner as per the manual (DVM-12CLD) and followed the instructions (up to four times for ten seconds, pop in the cleaning tape and hit play, record on a regular miniDV to see if it worked) - to no avail.

Here is my quandry:
Do you think it really is the head that needs cleaning, is bad?
Is there something else I can try to fix this?
I called the Sony Service number, and someone who did not really comprehend what I was saying (could have been a language issue) stated that for audio cutting out, it would cost $560 to fix it. That is nearly 50% of what the camera costs now - do I have any other option?
Can I contact someone locally (Raleigh, NC) - how do I find them?

Thanks in advance.

SOURCE: Tape Cleaning on-screen warning

Depending on the age of the camera/cassette, it may be that the heads are not just dirty, but are actually worn down. The gray bars are the DV equivalent of snow - data has been lost or at least cannot be displayed. If cleaning doesn't solve the problem, the heads probably need replacing. Depending on the age of the camera, it may be more cost effective to upgrade to a new camera.

It could need a head adjustment. Any camera store can do that for you.

I have a Sony VX 1000. The tape seems to be stuck, the door won't open and the camera won't turn on. The battery is fully charged, but no sign of any power, anywhere. We do no have the electrical cord,...

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Sometimes these can be cleaned, other times they have to replace the zoom switch block . I have a $40 min diagnostic fee on these. The lowest I have seen. I'd love to have a look at it. Larry's Electronics 916-362-8708

Sony vx-1000 eject mechanism has stopped functioning. The motors do not move and the camera beeps several times after it has been on for about 10 seconds and displays the eject icon in the viewfinder.

the motors are powered by a higher voltage capacitor, yours has dried out and cracked leaking the current supply of voltage needed to power the motors. the part does not cost all that much although labor will be very expensive

Where can i get a sony vx1000 for around 5000 bucks in good condidtion

Is there a reason you want the vx1000? They have updated this model several times as this unit came out in 1995. I am sure you could find one for that price being as they aren't even worth that much anymore. You can purchase a much better more modern camera from sony for your 5000$. If you check out ebay there are a bunch of them you can get one for about 700$ give or take.
Thank you,

Tele Lens

Tried Sony? Most converters work well, but you need to find the diameter of the thread on the front of the lens.. then go from there. I use a Sony (Well, Leitz) on my handycam.. has a 37mm thread and gives the 35mm equivalent of an 800mm lens. Quite adequate for most surf footage shot from the beach.
