Lights but won't start (by 4 users)

The 'Normal' cycle lights come on and it displays 44 minutes, but it won't start or switch to another cycle or cancel. It's just frozen there.

I have the Whirlpool 27" Calypso Top-Load Washer (gvw9959kq)
and yesterday the Electricity was going on/off due to a lightning storm.. Now the Washer shows the "Delicate Wash light" and "38 mins" on the display, but it will not Start and I cannot Cancel it.. I tried leaving it unplugged for 1hr, but Its Frozen in this mode.. Help I need to wash clothes :)

The "normal" light is on, the time "42 minutes" is shown and this thing beeps about every 20 seconds. I finally unplugged it. While it was still plugged up, it would respond to no commands and seemed to be totally frozen. I have tried plugging and unplugging it several times. It's only about 3 1/2 years old. I can't find a repairman who will touch it.

Mines just frozen, no lights.....nada...dead dead dead !

I have this machine, and it has had some issues. The sheet used by repairmen is located behind the front cover. To get to it you have to remove the Whirlpool emblem from the front of hte machine. It is a piece of rubber, just pry it with a screwdriver. Remove the screw, and slowly lift up the top coever. Do not go to far, if you do you can pop the metal hinges on the back. These will just reattach if that happens. The sheet is taped to the front in a plastic bag. You will find diagnostic codes and a bunch of other stuff that make troubleshooting this machine easier. The problem is with the touch control assembly. It is simple to replace yourself (20min). You can get one through appliancepartspros.com for $109.00 + tax/shipping. Do not call whirlpool. Their price? a whopping $332.00!
