Our 4 year old Samsung RS2534 refrigerator side would normally read "34" but it started flashing and the inside temperature now hovers between 48-50 and nothing we can do will change that. The digital temperature on the door reads "34" and the flashing has stopped. We called two different repair men who ended up admitting they don't know what is wrong and are not trained on Samsung and didn't charge for the service call. The freezer side seems to be working normally, it is making ice, but we had to take everything out to gain access to the panel in the back of the freezer section.

This site has a solution. And it's a well known problem with Samsung's refrigerators. Basically the evaporator behind the panels inside the fridge (not the freezer) is iced up. If you open the panel and let it thaw, it will fix the problem. However in my case, the same old problem comes back in 20 days. I'm trying to find a long lasting solution instead of putting a band-aid on the issue.

How do I keep my refrig/freezer from defrosting in the winter when store in the garage.

There is only one source of cold in many refrigerators. If yours is a top freezer, then most likely it is in the freezer.
But the thermostat that you set temperature with is in the refrigerator, not the freezer.
In the cold garages, what can happen is that the refrigerator stays cold enough that it does not call for cold. So the freezer does not get enough cold.
The freezer control works by diverting cold air into the freezer WHEN THE RERIGERATOR HAS TURNED ON THE COOLING. If it is not turned on, oh well.
The best you can do for this is to put both on max cold. Then the refrigerator will call for more cold at a lower temperature, and the freezer will get it more often and will divert more when it is cooling.
This can result in the refrigerator freezing things too. You can try raising the refrigerator setting JUST A LITTLE and see if both work, but keep freezer on max cool.
This works for my situation, but ambient temperature fluctuations in the garage make this dicey. We don't put things like lettuce in the refrigerator in the garage in the winter because freezing damages them.
Good Luck

My 18 year old refrigerator GE model TFX24FG freezer side is not keeping food frozen. Refrigerator side seems to be working normally.

The refrigerator side is at present working properly , but slowly slowly, it will also loose its cooling. This will happen because, freezer side is the side which cools first, then the refrigerator side ( also called as fridge side)., gets cooled. If freezer side is not cooling / freezing properly then fridge side will also loose its cooling ability.------------ And later on both section will loose its cooling.----------- As per the present situation, it indicates problem with compressor or problem with freezer side door not closing properly.---------- Or the temperature in freezer section is not set to proper cooling/ freezing.--------- So first inspect temperature, is it set right? If ok, then check the freezer door , is it properly closed? If ok, then its compressor problem.? The compressor is running non stop, this is indication of compressor problem.---------- Click this link below for more help:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/both-refrigerator-and-freezer-not.html ----------- Later on both section will loose its cooling. -------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
