The ccd chip replacement

Where did you purchase the new chip? I can't find it online. And exactly how did you replace it? Are there step-by-step instructions somewhere online?

I did not find any step by step instructions. I just took my time and took it apart. I got A schematic from here http://www.eserviceinfo.com/
enter the scd103 in search. You have to download
"ALL THE FILES" first, There are 9 files in which you have to get.
As for buying the CCD chip, I have not rally searched into buying one. As I bought A scd103 and A scd107 off E-Bay and put the 107 CCD chip into the 103. I can look around to help you find the chip.
Hope this helps.

The CCD fault is a known issue with Sony. My F717 was purchased in 2004, and developed exactly the same problem you described a year ago. Just before junking it recently (Dec 2009), I did a Google search and found that Sony will do free repairs. Their website makes this issue clear, and their online fault reporting system worked well in the UK. I got a printable freepost label, packakaged up the camera and sent it off. It came back a week later fully working again at absolutely no charge.

I have a GR-D72U that I purchased in 2005. I have hardly used it. But I got it out the other day and It has no picture and is displaying "lense cap" even though it is not on. Help please.

The problem you have is defective CCD (charged couple devise). This is the IC chip that produces the picure in the camera mode. It will have to be replaced by a technician. After replacement, the lens assy will have to be aligned to new CCD using service software. I can do this for you at a cost of $135.00 including the CCD with a 90 day warranty. You may contact me @ 615-400-1440 or fselman@comcast.net
