I have the same problem. Originally all DVD's were playable; after 2 months I had problems
and shipped it back to Samsung which repaired and it worked for a couple of months. I shipped
it again to Samsung which repaired again, it worked for several months and then stopped working again.
I've experimented using different new pre- recorded DVD's.
Some DVD's can be played sometimes others not. I have no idea what the problem

I have the same problem but it reads burned discs and not copyright dvds. I think it may be the dual layer dvds can't be read with a dirty lens. i'll try the cleaner and see if it works.

Complete garbage. I"d never buy from them again.

I tried the Q-Tip Method and It helped a bit. Then it got worse and now won't work well at all.

  • carfeendc Feb 16, 2009

I've had the same problem and was hating Samsung. The unit worked fine when I first got it, but became progressively fussier until eventually it didn't hardly ever read a disk, either ones I had created or commercial diskd. Samsung Tech Support was incredibly unhelpful over numerous phone calls and several months. The DVD laser lens cleaner kit didn't do the trick for me, but the Qtip method sure did. Now it works perfectly! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was ready to junk the whole thing. I'll try the cleaner kit from now on and maybe won't have to go the qtip route again.

Same problem, cleaned lens with no difference. 3rd Samsung product that fails on me. No more.

Last Korean, Chinese, Japanese or any other non-European make I ever buy.

You have a dirty laser lens! There are two different ways to solve this problem on this unit...( and yes, I do own this unit and have cleaned it both ways)!

First and most simple method.......Go to WalMart. Spend  $15.00. Buy a DVD laser lens cleaner. Follow the instuctions. Use after every 10 hours of play.

Second and more complex. On excessively dirty lenses that have not been cleaned with the above mentioned product....get a Philips screwdriver.
Remove three screws in the rear of the unit, and two more screws on each side of the case that hold the top portion (black in color) of the case together. This top portion will simply slide off by pulling it backward from the from the faceplate (which does not need to be removed).
If unplugged, plug the dvd player in and eject the tray. Unplug the player leaving the tray out. Locate the laser lens.... (a clear piece of plastic that is round and about 3/16" in diameter). The lens will be facing up towards the top of the player.
Get a Q Tip and some Windex window cleaner and wet one end of a Q Tip and clean that lens throughly and dry it with the other end.
Plug the player back in and close the tray.
Unplug the player and reassemble the unit.
The next time you plug your Samsung DVD VR330 in and to play your DVD....IT WILL PLAY.

The DVD+R disks from Staples work. However, many are bad and you have to keep trying. I had about 4 out of a 10 pack that worked. I believe this is common with DVD disks. CAUTION - You cannot use the chapter editing feature unless you get the DVD-RW disks, which I found at Best Buy. I have yet to try them, but it says in the fine print on the label that they are compatible with 2.4x; per the manual the machine requires 8x or higher. I am going to tey anyway.

I have the same problem. THe mess is that in France when I log to Samsung"s site for maintenance they loop on a wait we'll trying to find a repair facility near by your site. I had other problems with another Samsung product also. My advice never but Samsung whatever the price.

I have the same probem. Samsung is the worst electronic manufacturer in the world. No maintenance service when you log to your site and the worst quality of product in the world. DON'T BUY SAMSUN WHATEVER THE PRICE YOU WILL REGRET IT.

I had the same problem. The first time I sent it back to Samsung, they had it for 4 months. I used it for a month and it happened again. The second time they had it for a month. I finally copied all my old home videos, and now it's done it again. This time I'm throwing it out.

Will not record on blank dvd and rejects some saying disc error

In the past, when that occurred to me, I either had the wrong type of DVD disc or it called for a unused DVD disc to be put in. Be sure you are not using a CD disc.

It won't recognise a blank dvd.......its says "The disc cannot be played....please check the disc" I HAVE A DVD VR 357

check the disc in your PC if this finds it as a blank dvd then possible play head error.

Use a DVD+/-RW and use Imageburn to full erase then try this one in the recorder this may work if not a possible motor failure on the spindle

The DVD-VCR unit won't accept any DVD - blank or with content. It says "LOAD" but then ejects the DVD. Same DVD works in an identical Samsung unit in another room.

You may have a dirty lens on the DVD read head. There are CD/DVD cleaning kits available at some drug stores and electronic stores. Do not get a "CD cleaning kit" (that only cleans the discs), get a "CD/DVD lens cleaning kit" (it will have a special CD and cleaning solution) for $10 to $20.
If that's not it the DVD illumination LED may be dead. If it still plays CDs, but won't play DVDs, that's the problem. There are separate LEDs for playing CDs and DVDs.
Either way, if the cleaning doesn't work, it has to be fixed in an electronics shop.
