Question about Lexmark X4550 InkJet Printer

SCANNING WITH LEZMARK X4450

I cannot scan. The LCD stops working after saying "cannot retireve applicaiton list", and I cannot scan from Imaging Studio. Has anyone been able to scan?

    I cannot figure out how to scan using my lexmark X4550, the LCD says downloading application list but does not scan? how do i fix this?

I gave gotten it to retrieve the applications list by opening Lexmark Imaging Studio while it was searching, I AM however still unable to scan it connects to my comp I tell it to save as a file and it goes "Requesting Scan" then "Scan Request Failed"

No scan option error message pops up when i press the scan button, it says no computer is connected to the device, but my computer is connected and it says is working properly


First of all, Do you have HP Solution center installed on your computer, if yes, then check if you are able to scan from solution center, if yes then all u need to run a file from c:\Program Files\hp\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
once you will run it, check if u have a digital imaging monitor icon with a check mark in the system tray(where the system date and time are displayed), if yes then populate the front panel destination list in the solution center and add shortcuts to fron panel list and update device, turn off and ON the printer , then try scanning.
If solution center is not installed , then install the software full feature.

I have a scan button but it always reads "usb not connected". It is connected and print. I have tried connecting it to several ports. I turn off the computer and restart. I turn off the printer and back...

To resolve this issue I need to know the operating system, but however as you did not provide it I will assume your operating system to be Windows XP and provide this below troubleshooting steps.

Solution:
-----------------
Step 1.

Try copying form front panel and if copying doesn't work, check for the hardware issues with the scanner. If copying is fine then perform below steps.

Try scanning from Windows internal scanning drivers to confirm if the All-in-One is detected in the computer or not.

Step 2. Scan using WIA
-----------------------------------
To isolate the issue I suggest you to try scanning from the Windows Image acquisition (WIA) wizard on the computer.

Follow the below steps to Scan using WIA
1.Verify that the all-in-one product power is turned on and the printer cable is properly connected.

2.Click Start then Click All Programs then Click Accessories then Click Scanner and Camera Wizard.

3.Follow the Scanner and Camera Wizard instructions to scan images to the computer.

If the scanning is successful, proceed with step 3. If scanning was not successful then I request you to perform the step given in step 4 and then perform step 3.

Step 3: Manually check for Digital Imaging Monitor and populate the destination list
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The digital imaging monitor must be running for the scan to function to work. The digital imaging monitor normally appears in the system tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the computer screen, next to the time.

If the digital imaging monitor appears in the system tray, go to the section Populate Destination List.

Please follow these instructions to resolve Scan from Front panel of All-in-One unit issue:

1. Click the Start icon.

2. In the Start Search text box located above the Start icon, type msconfig and then press Enter.

3. On the User Account Control window, click Continue. The System Configuration window displays. Click on the Startup tab.

6. Search the list for the digital imaging monitor, the file name will be hpqtra08.

7. Recheck the box for hpqtra08.

8. Click Yes to restart Windows.

NOTE: If hpqtra08 is not on the list in the Startup tab, this indicates that the driver was not correctly installed. Uninstall and reinstall the driver.

9. Populate the Destination List with following steps:

a. Open the HP Solution Center.
b. Click on Settings --> Scan Settings --> Button Settings.
c. In the window opened, select "Scan to button" tab
d. Click the Destination List tab.
e. Click on each of the programs you want to appear in the scan to list.
f. Click the Add button. This moves the selected programs to the Front Panel Destination List.
g. Click OK.
h. Now try the scan to function from the all-in-one.

To save the above changes I request you to perform steps given below as Dest test.

Perform the dest test:
----------------------
1. Close all applications including HP Solution Center.

2. Open and run the DESTTEST file from the location:
C:\Programfiles\hp\digitalimaging\bin\Under Destination:

a. (Optional) Set the Category for the Destination List scroll
down menu on WEB_APP.

2. On the 5th option "Close Dest Test After sending to Destination", put a check mark and click on Save Results Before Exit.

3. Click on Exit in the bottom.

4. Now Open the HP Solution center, Click on Settings -> Scan Settings & Preferences -> Scan To Setup.

5. You will see all Button settings on the right side under the front panel destination List. In Case If not, click on Restore Defaults, click on Apply and click on Ok.

6. Push Scan To button on the unit you will see all the Destination List on the unit. Select the appropriate one.

This is a software issue. Somehow the applicaiton drivers are failing to complete the routing. This indicates corrupt printer application files.

You will need to uninstall the printer software, restart the computer then re-install the software.

Scanner not detected by Microsoft Office Document Scanning


1) Install the Microsoft Office Document Imaging feature by following the steps
given below:

1) Go to Start -> Control Panel.
2) Click the Add or Remove Programs.
3) Select the Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 and click the Change
button.
4) Click the Add or Remove Features and click on Next.
5) Select the Choose advanced customization of applications checkbox and click
Next.
6) Click on the Office Tools -> Microsoft Office Document Imaging -> Scanning, OCR
and Indexing Service Filter.
7) Select Run all from My Computer, insert the Office installation CD, and the
feature is installed.

This message will come up when you are scanning from the Stand alone printer not from the computer.

If the software is sucessfully installed in your computer,
Then you should have a icon which says HP Director / HP Solution Center (If not Goto> Start> All Programs> HP and then you will see them
Open HP Director/Solution Center and try scanning from there, It should scan from there.
If yes then go to settings> Scann Settings> Scan to setup> There you see an option which says Front panel Destination list> Click that and there you see a options says Restore Defaults> Click that> then Apply and Ok> And close all the indows and try scanning from the All-In-One.

If it does not work then try the steps bellow:

Go To:
My computer>C:windows>system32
Copy hpzipm12
minimize this window
Right click on Start button on the computer>Explore>Programs>Startup>edit>paste
minimize this window.
Go back to My computer>C:>windows>system32
Copy hpzinw12
minimize this window

Right click on Start button on the computer>Explore>Programs>Startup>edit>paste
Now you will see two new files in Startup
Now go to My Computer>C:Program Files>HP>Digital Imaging>bin>
Copy hpqtra08
close this window
Right click on Start button on the computer>Explore>Programs>Startup>edit>paste
Restart the computer
Open Hp Solution Center> Settings>Scan settings and preferences> Scan to button>
check destination list> if available applications are not in the destination list then add them in the front panel destination
Tried to scan.

You need to scan from windows photo gallery as Lexmark imaging studio is not compatible with Vista....................

Not networked properly


Solution To resolve the issue, follow the steps in the solutions below in the order presented. Solution one: Scan from the EWS (Embedded Web Server) Verify that the product can scan and is connected to your network by scanning from the embedded Web server (EWS) on the product. Use the following steps to scan from the EWS:
  1. Print a Network Configuration Page from the product. NOTE: See the product documentation, User Guide, or online resources for information on how to print the Network Configuration Page.
  2. Locate the IP address.
    • Check in the Wired section if the product is connected with an Ethernet cable
    • Check in the Wireless section if the product is connected using a wireless network connection.
  3. Make a note of the IP address found in the appropriate section (wired or wireless); for example, 192.168.1.1.
  4. Open the Web browser.
  5. Type the IP address into the address bar of the Web browser (such as http://192.168.1.1) . Then press Enter . The EWS for the product opens. If it does not open, STOP and click here to check the network connection between the computer and the product (c00047176) (in English).
  6. If the EWS page opened, find the Scan on option.
  7. Click Scan to perform a scanning operation.
  8. If you can scan from the EWS and not from the HP Director/Solution Center or from the product front panel, then continue to Solution two.
Solution two: Check the personal firewall settings When the firewall program is re-enabled after installing the All-in-One software over the network, it may block HP programs or ports required for scanning. If you see pop-up screens asking you to permit access to the network when you try to scan, you should permit access. NOTE: Firewall programs may also block the scanning operation even if they were enabled while installing the All-in-One software. Firewall programs do not always provide messages when blocking access. Follow Step one to allow access to HP program files and ports needed for scanning. Step one: Add programs to the firewall exception list
  1. Open the firewall program.
  2. Add the following files to the Highly Trusted programs list:
    • hpqkygrp.exe , located in the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory.
    • hpqscnvw.exe , located in the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory.
    • hpqste08.exe , located in the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory.
    • hpzipm12.exe , located in the C:\windows\system32 directory.
    • hpzinw12.exe , located in the C:\windows\system32 directory.
    • hpqtra08.exe , located in the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory.
    • hpqthb08.exe , located in the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory.
  3. If these files are already added, check whether full access has been granted to them.
  4. Open the following ports on the firewall utility by following the instructions provided by the manufacturer:
    • UDP ports: 161, 427 and 137
    • TCP ports: 9220, 9500 and 9290
Step two: Restart devices on the network After making the changes to your firewall application, turn off the All-in-One, the computer you made the firewall changes on, and your router, and then turn on these devices in the following order:
  1. Router
  2. HP All-in-One device
  3. Computer

I press scan it it wont scan my picture.


1. To load a picture, lift the lid and place the original face down on the left front corner of the glass, with the sides of the picture touching the left and bottom edges.
2. Close the lid

Scanning a text document
  1. Load the original.
  2. From the HP Director , click Scan Document .
  3. From the HP Scanning dialog box, select the desired options and Scan to destination.
  4. A preview of the image will appear in the HP Scan window. Make any edits from the HP Scan window and click Accept .
  5. Click Scan . The document will open in the selected Scan to destination.
Scanning a picture
  1. Load the original.
  2. From the HP Director , click Scan Picture . A preview of the image will appear in the HP Scan window.
  3. Make any edits from the HP Scan window and click Accept . The HP PSC sends the scan to the HP Photo & Imaging Gallery , which automatically opens and displays the image. The HP Photo & Imaging Gallery has many tools to edit the scanned image. For more information about using the HP Photo & Imaging Gallery , see the onscreen help that came with the software.
Stopping a scan To stop scanning, press Cancel on the front panel. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Scanner problem


Hi,

I understand that you are receiving the error to install the All-i n-one software while scanning from the printer front panel.

You have not informed whether the unit is connected in network or with USB cable.

However, follow the below given instructions to resolve the issue.

Verify that the communication between the computer and the printer is fine and the full version All-in-one software is installed in the computer.
Solution one: Verify that the Digital Imaging Monitor is ready The Digital Imaging Monitor must be running for the scan to feature to function. The Digital Imaging Monitor normally displays in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of the computer screen, which is next to the time. The Digital Imaging Monitor is ready when a check mark displays on the icon. This can take some time after startup to complete the initialization and for the check mark to display on the icon. If the Digital Imaging Monitor displays in the system tray, proceed to Solution two - Populate the destination list . Search for the file " hpqtra08 " in your computer and run the file. Solution two: Populate the destination list Here are the steps to set the scan options: 1. Open the HP Solution Center. 2. Click Settings. 3. Click Scan Settings and Preferences. 4. Click Scan to… Setup. 5. Click the Destination List tab. 6. If the Front Panel Destination List is empty, this is the reason the All-in-One is generating the error message, and you should continue with this procedure. 7. Click each program that you want to display in the scan to list. 8. Click the Add arrow. 9. Click OK. This should resolve the issue that you are experiencing with. Regards, Lawrence
