The problem is your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start.

the traction control system works off of the abs system so there is a code in the abs module that needs to be pulled so you know were to start to check the system out.the service engine light is a different system all together and there is a code in the ecm that must be pulled so you know were to start to check to repair that system.you don`t say why you jumped to the conclusion that the gas cap set a code.the emergency brake light will come on if the e-brake is not all the way in the off position(something may be holding the lever up just enough to put the light on.the switch could be misadjusted and needs to e readjusted.

What causes the securty light on the come on?
Hi, the passlock system will cause a code, resulting in a security light. There is a resistor in the ignition housing, when the key lock is turned, the resistance value is sent to the computer, allowin full function. If there is a discrepency in this value, such as a worn lock cyl, a faulty remote car starter, faulty wiring, or theft attempt, the security light will come on.The fuel system will be disabled as a result. Sometimes waiting 10 mins, and retrying may work, It should be scanned for trouble codes, which may lead you to the issue. Thanks...coop442000

05 Mailbu shuts down after 3-5 seconds after starting
it is a problem with the anti theft system
to reset it to the key
you put the key in turn the car on do not start the car
the securty light will flash wait untial it stays on (it takes about 1 min.) turn the key back to off you have to do this 3 times. you only have 10 sec. to turn the key to off after the light stops flashing.
This will program the passkey 3 system to the key you are trying to use

If your security light is coming on then you need to get the codes.The theft deterrent system will do this.It shuts off the fuel.You will need to get the codes from the theft deterrent system.Then go from there.

The Enhanced Traction System warning light may come on for the following reasons:
If you turn the system off by shifting to SECOND (2) or FIRST (1), the warning light will come on and stay on. To turn the system back on,shift to THIRD (3) or AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE

If the traction control system is affected by an engine-related problem, the system will turn off and the warning light will come on.

If the Enhanced Traction System warning lightmcomes on and stays on for an extended period of time when the system is turned on, your vehicle needs service. Adjust your driving accordingly..

I had the same problem. Also, "service traction system" warning light, "service engine soon", and "trac off" warnings. Audio system locks every time the voltmeter goes flat. I expected an expensive repair bill. On a hunch, I pulled both battery terminals, scrubbed all points of contact vigorously with a wire "toothbrush" and baking soda paste. (They didn't look like they needed it at all) Reconnected, tightened securely, started engine , and everything is back to normal. Zero cost, 10 minutes of your time.

Car will crank over but will not start
leave a battery charger on the car place keo key on engine off for roughly 10mins or until light goes out if light doesn't go off after30mins you need to repair securty problem first ie. pass lock sensor faild replace it first if you don't have proper diag equipment. if light goes out after 30mins start engine. you can also try disconnecting battery for 30mins and then hold pos and neg cables together with the battery still disconnected for 1sec to reset pcm /bcm. then relearn securty. good luck
