    Hey,

Thanks very much, but already looked at that manual and the problem was that it was stuck on an error but only giving messages in Chinese so I couldn't get back to the home menu to reset the language. Anyway, I did lot of fiddling and pressing of buttons and it eventually went back to the home menu, from where I could get to the language settings so all fixed now. Thanks very much,

    Emily

Cause
Action
The language you want to be displayed is not selected.
Select the language you want to be displayed according to the following procedure.
(1) Press the HOME button. Wait for about 5 seconds, select , and then press the OK button.
(2) Press the button to select the pliers and screwdriver icon , slide the window to highlight the LEFT selection, looks like 2 horizontal lines w/ arrows at either end, NOT the 4 color ink drop display, then press the OK button.
(3) Press the down button four times, then press the OK button.
(If the Bluetooth unit is connected to the machine, press the button five times, and then press the OK button.)
(4) Press the down button to select the language you want to be displayed( english), then press the OK button.
Voila! done! hope it helps.

The left selection is the 4 color ink drop display, I think you meant to say "Right" selection which is the 2 horizontal lines w/arrows at either end.

Anyway, your answer was awesome and solved my problem. Thank you!

Steps mentioned above didn't work for me.I have Canon MP600 printer. Recently I switched to Linux Ubuntu and installed drivers for myCanon printer. I managed to print out the thest page and one document. I switched printer and laptop off and left it in that state overnight. On of cartridges was running low on ink. Today I turned on my laptop and seen my printer's green light blinking, its display showed Canon logo but printer never started. I've tried to switch it off - no change. I unplugged printer from power socket and powered it back. Display panel went Chinese! I got rid of drivers and unplugged usb. I have tried steps mentioned here however I couldn't get the stage with pliers and scrudriver. Display did'n change at all I mean it was not only still in Chinese but also did displayed exactly the same chinease letters. Please help!

How to change the language from Chinese to English in Canon Pixma MX376 printer?

When you plugged in the printer and hit the power button the very first thing to come up on the display is language selection. If that didn't happen then you need to call 1-800-OK-CANON and ask them how to set your printer back to factory defaults.
