i ran into this problem a while ago. I had to test different dvd's. I then looked on the manufacturer's website. there they stated which dvd-r, dvd-rw would work. once i tried that brand It worked fine.
Have you tried other discs, or just that one? It might be that the disc you've inserted already has something written on it, and you can't burn a DVD-R twice. From the error message you're getting, that would be my guess.
well, sounds like common error promblem have you tried looking and seeing if mite have bought the wrong kind of dvd's I have done this before i bought dvd's instead of Cdrw's discs.? or try dowloading www.slysoft.com thier cd player plays and reads and rewrites almost anything .. lala linda
Probably a broken / misaligned laser. Could also be a bad internal motor, can you hear it spinning when you insert a disc?
Theres not a ton you can do really, if you're really skilled and have a lot of time you can realign the laser with a digital multimeter and a screw driver, but you have to be very technically inclined. You're better off purchasing a new one. Newegg.com sells dvd burner for less than 30 dollars new.
I hope this has explained your question in detail. If I've helped you please don't forget to rate me.
This is correct, as there is no TOC on a blank disk there is nothing to read.
it is your writing software that identifies blank media when inserted, so you may wish to check your software is appropriate for your requirements
