Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP79 Gas Kitchen Range

Hi...need help with my oven it won't heat up

Hi Mr. Bean-

Any help would be appreciated...GE profile model #JGBP79AEV1AA. The oven is not working properly. The broiler works, the pilots on the stovetop work fine but when I turn on the oven the digital display stays at 100 degrees and generates no heat. I took out the sliding storage bin underneath to see if there is any light but I see nothing. I'm not sure if it is behind a panel or it is not on....please help. Any advice is deeply appreciated.

I would love to be able to fix this myself without blowing up the family. If I am in over my head let me know and I will go oven shopping. Thanks....

If your surface burners work and the broiler operates normally, more than likely you have a failed igniter on your bake manifold. There are two separate igniters on your oven. One is for bake, and one is for broil. This is a common failure, due to the fact that the bake function gets used more often than broil. I found your part listed at repairclinic.com. Just type in your model number and the igniter is listed as item number 1990. For instructions on how to replace the igniter, click on the following link:

Just make sure you turn off the gas and unplug the range before starting any repairs. If you require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this information is helpful to you.

The oven pilot does not light. The broiler will not work. The only thing that does is the light. GE XL44 range. The burners light and the pilots stay lit.

If you have standing pilots, make sure the pilot for the oven/broiler is lit as well.  When you turn the thermostat up to call for heat, you should see the pilot get larger. That larger pilot flame heats a hydraulic sensor and opens the main burner valve.

The oven doesn't come on-but the self clean and broiler work

Check the electronic starter/pilot ignition on the bottom oven burner. It may be dirty, too far away from the pilot gas or the temp sensor on the pilot light flame may need replacing.

GE Profile Stove, stove top works but the oven will not heat up.

You will most likely have to replace the oven igniter. If you have the model number you posted under, I believe the igniter for the broiler is the same as the oven broiler, and could be swapped out to get the oven working again. (of course, now the broiler won't work until that igniter is replaced) If you'd like the part number or any further advise, comment back with the full model number off the sticker just behind the lower drawer panel on the frame of the range. Tonight, you may have to finish the chicken on the stove top.
