Hi, the problem I'm facing is that I am not able to add or delete files from the able flash drive I have. I tried reformating it, but it says that "the media is write protected". I have tried checking help/support on the computer and do a device manager search/scan and it says that the USB "device is working properly". I can't send it back to the manufacturer cos I threw away the receipt and I have only had the drive for a month :(

Thank you in advance for your advice.

The problem isn't with write protection. The file system has become corrupt and unreadable, or at least a section of it. If you can't reformat it then it's likely dying or dead. At least you should be able to recover some of your data however...

The message which you are facing while formatting your flash drive maybe be due to below reasons.
1) It could be due to virus. Try to scan your flash drive with your anti-virus and check.
2) Second reason would be when you connecting your flash drive it may include some autorun files which starts its own when you connect your flash drive and because that file is running it wont allow to be formatted, so try to delete all the files including in your flash drive and than try formatting.
or
There is right protect switch on many pen drives , a physical write protect switch which enables you to either allow writing on the disk or disallow writing on the disk.

All you need to do is toggle the right protect switch and you would be able to write files on your pen drive.

I cannot format my 4gp pen drive tells the is write protected

Your pen drive malfunctioned or can not be formatted anymore because it was corrupted or damage the chipset, you can only read the data, songs or pictures but you can not save or edit the file saved on your pen drive. Have a nice day!

USB flash drive write protection

Most USB drives don't have a Write Protection switch, but if yours does, then move the slider.

If it doesn't have a switch, the only way to use the drive is to format the drive. First, note the drive letter, such as E, F G for your drive. *** BE CAREFUL *** This will remove all files. Go to Windows Explorer, note the drive letter , Right-click and select Format. Again, BE CAREFUL not to format any other drive, just your removable USB drive.

Hope this helps.

Usb not formating due to write protect

Some usb pen drives,  if thats what you mean? They have a little button on the side of them to protect the contents of the usb pen drive. Check that, tyhen go to "My Computer" look for pen drive, Right click and format.

 Best of luck.....

My usb drive is write protected i cant format it pls help....

Have you tried doing it from another PC? If the same problem persists, look closely at your drive and check for a tiny switch that has a lock label on it- it maybe switched to the lock position. Most USB drives has this switch for write protection.

Unable to format the cruser pendrive

Far too often these little things have an almost invisible read/write protect button on them. Look carefully, over the entire surface of the USB Flash Drive. You might have this switch turned to Write Protect, which means there is nothing you can do, until you turn it the other way, and allow the device to be written to.

Cheers!
