Hi

Check wether the network card driver is properly installed in your computer and try to change the lan cable and check.

Where do find my security key to connect to the internet..I,m trying to set up a new computer..Thanks

If you have access to a wireless computer that is already connected to and operating on your network, then you should go here and download this utility http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=Im-88880-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
and then run it. Once it fully scans, click on Show Advanced Tools in the bottom left of the window and select Retrieve WPA/WEP Key, it will be on the right side.

If you do NOT have a wireless computer available, then you need to loginto your router (sorry, but I do not know which router you have) and go to the wireless page. If you have WEP, just copy down the WEP key that has the radial button selected (green dot) and that is your key. If you have WPA, copy the Preshared key.

If you do not know how to get to your router setup, go to a computer that is conencted to your router by a LAN cord. Go to Start > Run and in the Run window type CMD. If you have Vista or Win 7, go to the Start Orb and just type CMD into the serch bar. In the command prompt window type IPCONFIG /ALL now look for Default Gateway (that's your router) and copy down the IP Address.
Now open a web browser utility and type that IP Address into the address bar.

You are a bit confused with the various components required for Internet connections.
If you have a dial-up connection with an Internet Service Provider, all you do is connect your computer's modem port to the phone line and dial the phone number of your Internet Service provider.
If you are connected to the Internet Servise Provider by ADSL and have a combined ADSL router and modem then you connect the phone line to this router/modem. If the ADSL modem is separate component then the phone line is connected to the ADSL modem and this modem is connected to the router with a LAN cable and the computer is connected to the router with another LAN cable. If the route is wireless and the computer has a wireless card then you don't need a LAN cable between the router and the computer.
If you are connected to the Internet by ADSL, to secure your Internet connection and configure your computer so it can connect to the Internet, please follow my instruction - click on this link :-

Wireless communication This model has three ways of connecting:
- wireless lan (from a wireless router or Wi-fi)
- wired ethernet (connects to dsl or cable modem via network cable)
-wired 56K modem (connects from phone jack to wall jack-slowest)

Compliancy : Wi-Fi® <----------
Network Support : 802.11b/g integrated
Wireless Technology : Wireless LAN
Wired communication topology : Ethernet LAN <--------
speed : 10/100 Base-TX
topology : international V.90 modem (V.92 ready) <------
speed : 56 Kbps data and V.92 data fax
Regardless of how you connect, you must first have a Internet Service Provider.
If you don't already have one, look in your LOCAL phone book under "internet", call a few and find out what they have to offer. If your just surfing the net, reading e-mails, etc. a 1.2m connection will suffice.
If your gaming, hosting a web site , or performing any other bandwidth consuming activity you might consider a faster connection.
The price per month is also a factor.
i usually take a few notes on price, availability in my area, speeds offered, features offered and wether they give me a free modem with thier service.
dont do 56K dial-up, you will beat yourself silly while you wait for the webpages to load.

No because the VOIP need to be loged in first. if you have the voip first then the wireless router and you turned off the router dchp section part of the wireless modem then perhaps it will work, plus you need a voip account.

Is the problem that "nothing coming from the modem to the router"
if the router has more than one Lan port try the cable from the modem to the router, in the first lan port or the last port.

if its a wireless problem, ensure wireless router function is turned on ,and the adapter is enabled on the pc ,

if you set up a security key in the router ensure that it is put into the other pc wireless setting.(but try setting up without any security keys) when succesfull you can ad the security measures.

sometimes you need to turn on the modem first then turn the router on after a little while to sort the ip address out before trying to connect the other pc, in the first instance.

hope this is of help

please rate my efforts as this is our reward

good luck
