Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

The netgear router installation will set up the internet connection during install.
Download the Router driver from netgears website and install on the computer/s then your up and running.
it appears you wireless card is seeing the router so just install the drivers and your set.

A friend gave me his router to instal to my

You should do a factory reset using the reset button on the back using a paperclip.

Then you should insert the cd that your friend should also have given you (he didnt Hmm) if not you open an internet explorer page while hooked up (by wire) to the router and type into the address bar 192.168.1.1 on most netgear

The username is admin
and the password is 1234

From there you can use the setting your ISP gives you and also set wireless up.

Want to add laptops our internet service w/exist wireless router

The switch the installer was talking about is a setting in the router itself. The wireless in the router is probably turned off. If it had been enabled but no security configured, anyone within range could use your internet for whatever. (you become a wi-fi hotspot) The wireless is a user setting, accessible through the router's admin page, through your computer's browser. Consult the manual that came with the router. If you don't have the manual, you can download a copy at the Netgear website. Once into the router's admin functions, you can enable the wireless, and configure the settings, and the WEP key. You will need to create the WEP key in the router, and enter that key in the wireless settings in each laptop. the manual explains it all very well and understandable for the non-geek. Each function should offer a help page if there's something you don't understand.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

Netgear range max cant be found by ps3 please help

1. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
3. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

4. Click the Wireless Settings under Advanced tab.
5. Check the box under Enable Wireless Router Radio and Enable Wireless SSID Broadcast.
6. Click the Wireless Settings under Setup.
7. Change Channel (recommended are 1, 6 and 11).
8. Change the SSID to uniquely identify your network. You might have a similar SSID with your neighbor.

Note: Do not change the SSID if there are already other wireless computers that can connect to the network.

Other factors that you may consider when you are not able to view any available wireless network:

a. Switch for the wireless adapter is turned off
b. Distance between the wireless router and computer
c. Possible wireless interferences

on your computer try to reinstall the device driver for wireless. try to connect the ethernet cable directly to the computer. if you have internet access, then most likely your netgear router needs to be reconfigured. you need to contact your internet service provider or router manufacturer for the reconfiguration of your router. mostly likely the security settings of the router needs to be changed.
