If you mean toner, you can probably do it, but most new printers have a memory chip on the cartridge which keeps track of toner. Adding toner will not change the count and the printer will ignore the new toner
Check the drum on the toner cartridge.DO NOT EXPOSE IT TO THE DIRECT SUN LIGHT. Check for some oily spots on the drum.I f there it is clean them with a soft cloth. After this put a cartridge in the printer and make 2-3 test pages. If the problem still exist maybe you should try to disassemble the cartridge and clean the blade of the developer roller and drum cleaning blade. DO NOT TOUCH WITH OILY OR WET HANDS. Here is instructions for disassemble and for refilling the cartridge step by step http://www.uninetimaging.com/downloads/technical/hp/english/HP_P_2035_2055_Reman_eng.pdf
1. Plug in and turn on the printer. 2. When you lift the cover of the printer, the cartridges will center themselves where they can be easily reached. 3. There will be a little 'flap' over each cartridge, lift it from the front and the cartridge should 'pop out'. Good Luck! (ps. installation is the reverse).
Indeed, the problem here is dust building up on the scanner mirrors. The mirrors are hidden deep inside the printer, but if you have an hour to kill, you can disassemble the printer, clean them off carefully, and solve the problem. See the very detailed PDF disassembly guide at http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1221679079368+28353475&threadId=1182873 . Solved all my problems.
