Power popped and now has odd bright colors down the middle** HELP
Ver much a rookie to repairs but I love this TV. Has been working fine for years and last night it made a sharp pop and was out. Unplugged and plugged back in and it powered up but only with strange brightly colored shifting and only down the center (vertically) of the set.
Please advise with potential problems and how to would be great as well.

If everything else works - there is sound and high voltage (static on the screen) - but there is no picture (including no on-screen menus), this limits the likely area of problems is the video output circuitry or CRT filament connections. Check to see if the CRT filaments are glowing. If they are not glowing, check for bad soldering on the CRT neck board and around the flyback transformer.
Where the picture is erratic - coming and going entirely or changing brightness suddenly, with power off, remove the picture tube socket (carefully!) and clean the pins with fine sandpaper and use contact cleaner on the socket. This source of bad connections can result in a variety of erratic symptoms. Check for bad solder connections on the CRT neck board
if it is a tube type unit you may not find a new tube they are almost extinct ,
also, most tube malfunctions are caused by improper voltage, only a qualified tech should work on the high voltage section of a tube tv,,, it can kill you even if it has Not Been Plugged in for a whole year
re-post with the make and model number for further assistance
you know it sounds like the same problem i had....
look this is something you can try.... "turn the tv off and unplugg it!!!"...you'll need to take out the lower front part of the tv......(where the speakers are to be exact) on each lower end you will find 2 screws..Be careful it will open to the side and there are many wires, i suggest you mark them to know where to put them back...then right in the middle there will be a black cover with about 5 screws..take them out....and look at the very bottom you'll see a thing with 6 pegs....the top ones are for the screen "DO NOT TOUCH THEM"...the ones on the bottom are for the colors...re adjust them...the left one it's for blue, the middle one it's for green and the last one it's for red...
I had the same problem after i moved....and after i re adjust that the tv looks super...
i hope that helps..:P
I have on and if the batteries start getting weak the screen display brightness is the first to stop working. Double check that, if you are on AC power try sliding the brightness control from dim to bright a few times and see if the rheostat has corroded. Those are a few of the quick checks you can try, let me know. Jay
# 1 above you have covergence problems ,there is a service flash from rca to fix your fault, ask your tv shop. fault # 2 above turn off the color and adjust your screen settings for a grey picture, set brightness and contrast to middle settings. # 3 fault read #1 cause if your auto focus will not correct you require service there is a harness connector that looses connection and causes several fualts on the 52" rca's you can repair the fault but if you miss the harness replacement you will do it again.
It sounds like either one of the tubes are arcing (internally)....Or maybe one of the high voltage leads are arcing to the crt metal housing.......If so you'll see burn marks on the metal.....apply some silcone to the wire where it attaches to the tube.
caution
whenever you see horizontal line please reduce brightness of your tv for safety of crt.
your problem in vertical section only mostly due to loose contact in
connector,print or loose components.
have a Mitsubishi TV 1993. Model CS-35301. The problem is that there is a white line that is running through a blank screen. The sound is fine just no picture. Have you heard of "Vertical Collapse?"
I would love to save the TV.
Hi
nothing to worry just minimise brightness to avoid screen burn.
"Vertical Collapse?"
means one bright hor.line in the middle of screen.
this problem can be solved
1 check vertical yoke connector or wire loose
2 check supply to vertical section which normally comes from EHT transformer
check components in vertical section or print loose
regards
thanks
