I've had this problem for about a month and just found the solution. I hope you can follow my description...
Open the back cover; pull down the black, hinged paper guide.
You'll see a 1" lever sticking up in the center connected to a 5" horizontal bar.
About 3" to the right of that lever you'll see a tab protruding from the bottom of the bar. That tab needs to go into the slot below it. That just be the trigger/switch. Mine was dislodged from that slot. When I re-inserted it my problem was fixed.

I found that there is a optical switch on the right side as viewed from the back. This needs to be "blocked" by the plastic tab the moves in and out with the paper guide part. I saw that the small horizontal plastic bar has a small tab in the middle that was not inside of its slot. I moved it back into the slot and the problem went away. This problem was found on another brother printer and the fix was the same.

Printer quit printing. Screen says fuser cover is open. Where is it located so I can close it?

Your problem: paper is jammed in the back of the printer around/in the fuser.

The Users Manual for your printer is located at:
http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users Manual/UM_DCP_7030_7040_EN_1510.PDF

You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader (free from www.adobe.com) to view it.
LOCATION:The fuser cover is located in the back - its covered by the panel in the back called
the "back cover" aka "back output tray cover".
2-step fix:
(A) open the back cover - on the back of the printer.
HOW: it flips down
(B) open the fuser cover and remove paper jam
How: Pull the 2 tabs (one left and one right) toward you to open the fuser cover.
(it also flips down to open).
Most of this fix comes from downloading the Users Manual and blowing up page 60 (of 108 pages).

OK almost a months ago on the screem shows the ; Back cover open- Close the back cover I couldn't find the back cover which is open what is that mean can you please tell me which is the back cover...

This happens to mine when it is actually paper jam in the back. Open the back cover, then open the black guard behind that then depress the two purple levers and pull out the sheet. Two people make it easier but I can do it myself.

The printer says back door open when its not

Open the front cover and remove the drum and toner(cartridge) There should be a paperjam in the machine. It reads back cover open because the piece of paper is covering the sensor for the back cover.

I had a paper jam and I had opened back cover to clear it. Now when I close it still says Back cover open. Close the back cover. What should I do? There is a black color flap inside the main back cover...

Just fixed the same problem. My solution was as follows: When you open the back cover there is another plastic flap/cover inside that drops. Across this 2nd cover there is a plastic rod running parallel with a plastic finger that sticks up perpendicular to the rod which I believe guides the paper into the roller.

On my machine this rod came out of line, placing it about a quarter inch to the left which affected the sensor and the guide. If you look closely, you will notice a small groove on the rod that needs to be in a specfic slot on the 2nd cover. Good luck

This is happening because there is a paperjam in the machine and its covering the sensor for the back cover. Open the front cover of the machine and remove the drum and toner, then you can remove the paperjam.

Message on brother MFC7420 "back door open" when it's not

Actually, you need to double check the back cover and front cover, open them all to check all paper jam.
Besure to check the back cover, normally all paper jam is from the back.
be sure to close the front cover at the last cover to close.
