My monitor will not come on , Dell Dimension E520, and a series of 6 long toned beeps occurred, haven't seen this pattern on any forum site. Memory recently upgraded. any clues ? Cheesie

if the beep pattern and led light pattern it's a memory problem, try reseating the RAM. Problem and solution is described multiple times here

Well if its a dell monitor also, it will say dell, and does not mean the computer is communicating with it, your manual is here ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-5000_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf (copy and paste) what EXACTLY is the beeping code doing, the term continuous beeping tone could mean different things. You should have 4 small led lights on the rear that say A, B, C, and D that are diagnostic lights, what color are those?

You likely have an internal component failure or improperly seated memory module. It could also be caused by a faulty cable, such as a monitor cable, drive error, etc... You can reference this link to assist you in diagnosing the defective component based on the beep code. Beep codes or BIOS codes beep in different series of long & short beeps so that a defective component can more easily be identified.

try un-seating all of the memory, then insert one, power it on etc etc

Please go to the below site and observe the codes with 3 beeps. Dell's beep codes are in series with pauses between. I think you could discover a much more definitve souce of your problem.

HERE is a link directly from dell as to what the lights mean and possible solutions. sounds like you may have a failed component on the motherboard or a bad powersupply

An incomplete Norton installation activity (like a software for online security for kids) could have taken place. I suggest to uninstall this completely, clean it up and reboot. That should take care of it.

Here's my point of view of you problem. I have also experienced the same problem since it is always raining here in the Philippines. I just have to ask a few questions before i can give a direct solution to you.
Please provide the following:
1. Do you have a voltage regulator in your computer set. 2. Do you hear a beeping sound everytime you turn your computer on after the incident happened? 3. Does the processor fan still runs after turning your PC on or not? 4. Kindly provide your computer specs.

Do u see the POST screen, and later the 2 Beeps ?
if not you may have a BAD MEMORY, try
1- turn off the pc 2- pull the power cord from the wall 3- Take the memory dims and just leave one installed. 4- turn on the pc again. 5- if you still get the 2 beeps, do # 4 again and replace the installed memory to rest the others. 6- when you get success just get another dim and replace it.
