I am not sure what plugs to plug into the compact disc, dvd ram/r, floppy disc, and hard drive. Had a computer wiz change plugs around, now my compact disc won't play any disc, and I have no sound on Linux. Not sure if I have seperate problems, or if they are both from just a couple misplugged in items.

Disk drives usually have two main plugs, one for power and the other is a multplug for system communication. power is small with only one connecter. the other multi connecters in the plug. they only fit one way in drives. Just match them up. Power/multi are linked in pairs so that you know which go to any one drive. there are at least two pairs in a desktop. if its a laptop only one pair and you have to take it apart to get at wiring. Desktop, just open case panel to access inside.

Cyber pwr disconneted to move. Reconnected and long beep persists. Even after reconnecting plugs. Tried reset button. still not on.

the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active untill turned off.

make sure that your RAM and Cmos battery are securely seated

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and to have and end to function
the beeps are post pre operating system searching for some hardware it could be RAM cd/dvd hard drive or motherboard all of these must have secure connections for the computer to work
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure make sure the connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all electric current and computer data to travel to and through every working device and have an end to work properly click start right click on my computer so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Reboot and select proper boot device

You will probably have to replace your CMOS battery (looks like a big watch battery) and check to make sure the HDD is fully plugged in. Also, I believe that if it tries to reboot again, you will want to hold down the F5 key while it is rebooting. Eventually, it should change to the system BIOS screen, and you can change the order of your boot device to one that works.
