Question about Apple iPhone 3G
I keep getting a "No SIM card installed" error massage. I can't do anything with my iPhone 3G. Tried restarting it, but no luck, took out the SIM & replaced it, also no good.
What can I do? I really don't want to go to the Apple store, it's still crazy there.
I too have had the "no sim card installed message. What has always worked for me is to go into settings and put the phone into airplane mode for about ten seconds and then switch back to regular mode which causes the phone to reconnect to the ATT network. The sim message goes away. This is also a good fix for when your phone isn't connecting to 3G or showing an "E" instead of 3G.

I had the same problem with my iPhone 3G. I took out the SIM card, tried to clean the contacts and noticed the SIM card still had a bit of warping on it. Gently removed the warping off the SIM card by bending it a bit then cleaned the SIM card contacts and it has never done the error since.
I believe this should solve your problem.

I'd been having the same problem so I decided to call Bell and turn out all SIM cards with batch numbers ending in 07,08, and 09 are faulty and will go after about 10 months so I just had to take it back to a Bell store and they traded with me.

The 'spit shine' technique solved this problem for me. There was a dirty fingerprint covering half the SIM. Thanks!

This will happen when you dont get service
take out sim from iphone and put it in another cell phone and make a call
then take out sim again and put it back in the iphone and try to make a call (you still might not see the bars). They will come up while your call is going thru.

Take the phone to the Genius Bar at an Apple store. They should be able to fix you right up.
