My r707 has been on the charging cradle for over a month. Worked perfectly last time I used it. Now has "charging flash" constantly and will not turn off. I tried to remove battery and found it difficult. Finally got it out and found it swollen. I have a spare (also original HP). I inserted it and have the same problem. Camera has been used very little. I did the reset. Still no help. What else can I do? Does anyone know of known problem with this camera?

I found my answer to this on another board. Remove the battery and SD card. Use a paperclip to press in the small siver dot above the + sign for about 10 seconds. This resets the firmware.  It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you too.

I have the same problem. I'm guessing that the capacitor needs replacement.

Pentax K110d flash trigger problem, I have 2 flash trigger strobes set up and a flash on the hot shoe of the camera, but with shutter release the trigger strobe lights fire but do not show in the pic, only...

Your camera uses a PTTL flash system. That means the flash on the camera fires a "pre-flash" to set the exposure and then the main flash. Your flash trigger strobes are reacting to the pre-flash and firing before the shutter activates. This all happens in a millisecond.

Camera Model R707. Fails diagnoostic test No. 10 (Strobe test)

First things first, is your camera still under warranty? if your camera still has warranty then that should solve the problem you can contact your dealer or hp directly for warranty repairs.

I have a HP Photo Smart R707 with a fully charged new battery and the flash won't work. Keep getting charging flash. Any help on this?

The flash mode has to be set.

There are 5 flash modes:
  • auto - flash fires when needed
  • red-eye reduction - flash fires when needed, but there's a pre-flash to minimize red-eye
  • flash on - flash always fires
  • flash off - flash never fires
  • night - flash fires if necessary (and uses red-eye reduction) to illuminate foreground objects, but shutter stays open to record the background by ambient illumination

Having trouble with the flash on my R707

You need to be more specific. Try to run self-diagnostics tests - press flash button while switching the camera on. One of those tests checks the flash.

The camera turns on and takes pictures but the flash doesn't work. I saw the number 403 on the screen when I was trying to figure out the problem.

Studio Strobe not firing with Coolpix

The Coolpix line of cameras require a "tip positive" sync connection to an external strobe unit (when using the Nikon AS-15 Flash Sync Adapter). On some external Studio Strobe units the sync polarity is easy to change because of the type of plug: On this type of connector simply turn the plug around and insert it with the male pin connectors in the other holes. Other types of connectors (such as the standard "phono" plug) are not generally changeable by the user. If the Coolpix does not fire an external strobe check with the strobe manufacturer for sync polarity info.
