First things first, is your camera still under warranty? if your camera still has warranty then that should solve the problem you can contact your dealer or hp directly for warranty repairs.

    1.Turn off the camera.
2.If there is an optional memory card in the camera, remove it.
3.Remove the battery from the camera.
4.Press and hold the straightened end of a paper clip in the reset switch. Release the switch after three to six seconds.
NOTE: The Reset switch is the small hole located by the battery slot.
5.Reinsert the battery and close the Battery/Memory card door.

How to upgrade firmware on r707?

There is no upgrade. There never will be any.
Manufactures only bring out new firmware if they discover frequent problems with the software occur. The camera does not have issues with the software. So you don't need, no you can't update.
If your camera does have an issue (after 10 years something can be defect) you should look somewhere else. Like expecting things from the camera it never could in the first place, or hardware problems of any kind.

Battrey drains after a few photo shots

May be you should prefer to use AC power adapter.
Because this model use much electric. HP know that and strongly recommends that you update the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera firmware.
You must know that this is normal for this model camera.

Having trouble with the flash on my R707

You need to be more specific. Try to run self-diagnostics tests - press flash button while switching the camera on. One of those tests checks the flash.

Photosmart r707 menu button doesn't work and the card is un readable

I'm having the same problem with my own HP R707. I'm finding that the only solution is to do a hard reset on the firmware or whatever, but taking the battery and mem-card out and putting a paper clip into the tiny hole in there and hold it for 6 seconds.

It seems like turning the camera on is like playing roulette anymore where one or two or all the buttons will not work, warranting a hard reset. I've updated the firmware and still have the same problem. I'm starting to see why this model is discontinued.

R707 Fails diagnostic test 10 (strobe)

I found my answer to this on another board. Remove the battery and SD card. Use a paperclip to press in the small siver dot above the + sign for about 10 seconds. This resets the firmware.  It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you too.

Flash problem HP R707

I've just spent 30 minutes on the phone (premium rate) to HP re this problem. The solution was as follows: switch the camera off take the battery and any memory cards out press the end of a paperclip into a small hole (which you can see with the battery compartment open) remove the paperclip after 10 seconds put the battery and memory card back in and the problem should be sorted. HP also suggest upgrading the camera firmware (which you can do via their website)
