hello. the most probable cause for a ps3 not turning on is broken power supply. my advice is to bring to your nearest sony service center. especially if your console is still under warranty. fixing it yourself might void the warranty. but if you still want to do it yourself buy yourself a power supply that is compatible with your console (40GB ps3=40GB ps3 power supply) here a link on how to open your ps3 http://www.llamma.com/PS3/repair/PS3_disassembly_tutorial.htm but remember, do this at your own risk. still the best way is to bring it to a service center. hope this helps
this happened to me a while back it was so frustrating. but what i did was go to system settings and click on restore game settings and dont worry it wont mess ur ps3 up. what you need to do after that is if u have a psp registered for your ps3 you have to do that again and if you have any bluetooth devices you will have to register them again and fix all your settings back. also it will not clear gamesaves or pics or song or pics so dont worry. i hope it works fo you to. Good Luck
Hook it up with the component cable and then hold the power button on the console until something comes up on screen. Make sure you have selected the component input on your tv or else you wont get anything anyway.
What holding the power button does is it resets the video settings to the lowest common denominator and then you can reconfigure it for the optimal picture quality of the component cables.
If that doesn't work double check the component connections on the back of the TV and just make sure they are where they should be and that no accidents were made while hooking it up.
Please post the results from these steps here so that I know what happened.
if it does not turn on then its the power supply.. make sure you get a power supply matching your ps3.. the 60gb models have chrome like housing the 40gb have a dull grey color .. different wattage used means different supply is needed.. if you need more help let me know
