Question about Panasonic VDR-D100 DVD Camcorder

Was recording fine then message to check disc when turned back on

I have had a Panasonic VDR-D100 camcorder for a year and 3 months. It has worked great. Recently with the exact same brand disc from the same package of 12 I have been using for a while will only record for a few scenes then when turned off the recorder will not record anymore but will only let me review what was already recorded. When I turn it back on to try to record again I get the normal message- reading disc then sounds like it is working harder than normal and give me a message that says please check the disc. It is still running but will not record or anything. So I turn it off check the disc and start again. For several times. I did clean the disc with a silk cloth. I did not see anything. It appears normal. This has happened now with 2 different discs. Any suggestions? Do you think it is actually the disc or a problem with the recorder since it has happened twice now.

Thanks for responding. I did try to reset the camera. I am going to try yet another disc and come back later.

Unless you've been unlucky and had two bad discs in a row its probably the camera. have you tried resetting the camera and trying again?

If you replace the dvd drive assy in the vdrd100 it wont destroy the recording on your discs and the other recordings should play just fine, provided that the discs arent defective or the recordings on them are ok. I hope this helps

Your computer probably wont read the disc, you may need to upload it. If you don't know how to do that I'd be happy to explain. Hope that helps.

Panaconic VDR D100

im sure that your mini dvd will be readable with your dvd rom. if its not then try to use your mini dvd with your camcorder and use usb wire to connect it to your pc. install the cd driver came with your camcorder. use ulead movie maker to detect the camcorder and edit it to that. save it with any various types of videos that you like burn it with nero burner as a dvd disc.now you can watch it to your dvd player. hope that helps!

Cannot finalize

Just to clarify - when you say try to finalize the disc on the DVD recorder, do you mean the DVD camcorder i.e. the VDR D100? if not and you mean an actual DVD recorder then this is where your problem lies, as the disc can only be finalized in the VDR D100 unit itself. this could be the reason behind the poor quality when you watch the clip using windows media player.

If i've got the above wrong, and you were talking about finalization problems on the unit itself all along then the following might help: how full is the disc you are finalizing? if it is pretty full then delete one or two unwanted clips and try finalizing again (this worked for me when i had this problem).
if the disc is not really full then it gets trickier. let me know if it works
