Resolution automatically changed on startup

Hi,

I have a zenith z775ci 17'' colour monitor.Have win 98 and win xp sp3 OS. I also have ext tv tuner card attached. My problem is that that yesterday when I restarted my system my screen resolution has changed automatically and everything was looking very big . Even the TV screen has increased..horizontally its not fitting....

I tried xp display settings like resolutiuons,no go..advanced-general 96dpi,my adapter type listed is s3 graphics pro savage 8a26...There is a button for list all modes...I tried all the various adapter (a button is there )modes but they are all not of much help though they change the resolution. Either its becoming too big or too small but not the correct one which used to fit on my screen. My current size is 1024 x 768 pixels and I can see the images as before..the only problem has the total image screen has expanded or you can say my horizontal layout has increased. When I try to use the monitors menu button to adjust the hsyn and hposition i can see the cut out portion of the images..its like the right side images (win xp start button) have gone towards the left and i cant see them and if i adjust it towards right then I miss the right side ie time/date taskbar icons...
My monitors menu setting hsyn and zoom is currentl 0 ie I have used it to the hilt...
My current monitor menu says h 48.3khz v 59.9khz....

Another interesting thing is that when i tried to boot from win98 after this incident yesterday...it said that found new hardware and instaling drivers for it.....though it was installed previously and now 98 also has big icons... I have Asus motherboard and tried to install the asus video driver in 98 again but after installing that i cant log in as normal...i am able to login only in safe mode....

Even the BIOS letters are bigger now....I cant format my system as the win98 bootable floppy is not entering in that resolution i guess.....

I have kasp 2008 regd antivirus and internet security suite and there is no virus..i have checked that...what could be the problem...the monitors clarity is absolutely fine as it was before...its almost new...6 months old piece..



any ideas ...plz let me know if u need any other info to help me to resolve this issue....
