PT5598HDI Wiring Problem

Like the dummy that I am I disassembled my AKAI PT5598HDI TV for cleaning and removed the mainboard. I got everything put back together except for 2 single wires that I forgot to label. One is a single red wire coming from the red crt and the other is a single green wire coming from the tuning section. If anyone knows off the top of their head where these 2 wires connect to the mainboard or could send me a photo I would be very, very appreciative.

The red wire will go somewhere to the right side near the High Voltage section. The green wire is probably antenna. DO NOT get them crossed...

Question. what connector if any is attached? The board will usually have a pin sticking up that is marked...

Akai PT5598HDI Rear Screen Projection TV With Blue Shadowing

If the ghosting is like a 3D effect its your convergence ICs , but if its like a blue Halo around objects that usually means your CRT coolant has congealed and will need replacement. The blue is the first tube to congeal for some reason, followed by green. Red seems to be not quite as prone to this. It is a normal occurrence n sets about 4 years old to need the coolant changed.

http://www.fixya.com/support/t1663670-akai_samsung_pt4299hd_convergence Adjust the convergence manually. It's a pain and takes alot of patience. The diagram for the remote buttons helps a lot. If it won't adjust you'll have to replace a part inside the tv. Good luck! Hopefully it'll adjust.

AKAI PT5598HDI 55 Where is fuse located

This problem is beyond a blown fuse most likely. The fuses for the unit are located on the circuit boards and the back will need to be removed to access them. This problem could be due to a missing voltage that is used to turn on the picture section of the electronics. I would search for a used unit on ebay or parts on ebay and swap out the boards. The board swap is not too complex but voltages are dangerous within the set and service by a qualified electronics technician is recommended on this unit. Thanks and good luck. Dan

Sounds like a power supply issue. Does the power indicator light up? Can you hear a click when the power button is pressed?

Dave,
Without a doubt it's worth the repair. The convergence amps have most likely failed and taken with them the +/- 30v line. Your unit takes two STK392-040 Sanyo built Ics at board location Icz103 and Icz104 and usually one or more pico fuses and some low ohm resistors. F1018 sometimes opens due to stress but generally it's just the two 6.3 amp pico fuses and if they have opened I strongly recommend replacing them with a 6.3 amp slo-blo pico.
The low ohm resistors at RZ147, RZ146 usually show signs of heat stress and may even be burned beyond recognition. Testing at that point is almost unnecessary but will confirm their change in value. Almost always they need to be replaced.
A quality shop will have this unit back on its feet in no time - faster if they have the parts in-stock, which you might ask about when you shop around for a good repair facility.
Have a great day!
Bill
