Question about DISH Network IR Remote Control

1 Answer

Draining batteries I've had DishNetwork with the IR/UHF Pro 6.0 for many years. Everytime I put batteries in the remote, it drains the batteries within 2 days. Doesn't matter if the batteries are new, they always drain. I do not have this problem with the main remote, just the UHF remote. I assumed there is a button stuck, but I nothing seems to be stuck. PLEASE HELP!!

Hi Robert, my name is Cheri Torres and I work on the Social Media Team at DISH. It sounds like your remote is experiencing IR(Infrared) interference from your LG TV. You can resolve this issue by converting your TV1 remote to UHF(Ultra High Frequency) instead of IR. In order to do this you will need a UHF remote, the 20.0 remote is only an IR remote. Please email me directly at Cheri.Torres@Dish.com with your account number or phone number on the account so that I can look into getting a UHF remote sent out. Thank you.

My dish remote does not work all the time on Sat..like Guide ..etc... after i turn tv and dishbox off it works sometimes?please help

fritzglas,

It sounds like a interference issue. Sometimes a TV (Usually LCD) or other equipment can generate enough heat to interfere with the IR sensor.

If function returns when you go right up next to the receiver then there is most likely something causing that interference. If that's the case remove possibly sources or turn equipment off and power on 1 by 1 until you isolate the problem.

Another solution if you have a spare remote, or order one, is change it from IR to UHF and bypass the possible. This can be done with remote model's that say IR/UHF Pro on the back at the top.

If you can provide more information about your setup, or if those steps didn't work let me know here or at thomas.faust@dishnetwork.com and I would be happy to check it out further with you.

Uhf pro fcc id DKNFSK01 MY REMOTE WILL NOT WORK AT ALL I'VE PUT NEW BATTERIES IN IT AND IT LIGHTS UP BUT WILL NOT WORK THE RECIEVER AT ALL ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT THAT YOU

Hey edwards879,

It sounds like the remote needs to be addressed to the receiver.

I have provided the steps below to assist you with that, you can also check out this link: http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/remote-setup

Addressing Remote to Receiver:

1.) Go to System Info screen.
2.) Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
3.) Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.
4.) Press the pound (#) button.
5.) Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record.
6.) Test remote and see if works.

If you reprogram it and it still doesn't work the remote may need to be replaced. If that's the case or if you have any other questions let me know!

bp22911,

It sounds like it may be an interference issue with the IR. Some LCD TV's can cause interference with an IR signal which will cause problems with the remote. Something you can try to fix is disabling the Auto Back-Lighting feature on the TV itself and see if that helps. If not, the easiest way to fix would be to make the TV1 remote UHF.

This would require a 21.0 remote as a 20.0 is IR only. Look on the back of the remote at the top to see what model you have.

With a 21.0 go to System Information. On the back of the remote inside the battery cover is a switch that says IR And UHF and make sure the green 1 is showing. Flip it to UHF and press Record 3 times. The Primary Address should now have UHF in it. Try the remote and see if it works.

If it doesn't or you continue to have problems you can post here or email me at thomas.faust@dishnetwork.com

Hello, this is Becki Barned, with DISH Network customer service. For this issue, since you have already replaced the remote and have the 5 foot coax cable on the antenna, then at this point, we would want to send a tech out for you. The technician can determine if this is an issue with the receiver box, or can set up a back feed for you. I can help you out with this issue further. You can e-mail me at becki.barned@dishnetwork.com .

DishNetwork IR Remote Control Problem

First the only way the 6.3 will work is if it has the green number 1 on the tab facing you. Assuming this is the case you will need a new remote. This primarily is the remote for the second room away from the receiver. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Jim,
If the remote keeps draining batteries at an unusual rate, which is what it sounds like you are describing, there is an internal fault in the circuitry of the remote and the remote must be replaced. Once you get the new remote I can help you program it to your receiver and to your tv. It is a fairly simple process but will probablty get lost before you get your new remote if I explain it to you now. Make sure that the remote is the same model type that you have now. The remote model number will be on the back and will be a two digit number e.g. 8.0, 6.3 etc. There are three basic types of remotes: Infra red, UHF, and UHF pro which is an IR/ UHF combo; and you want to ensure you get the proper type. Let me know when you have the new remote so I can get you set up correctly again and I apologize for the inconvenience you have had with this equipment.

Sincerrely,
Jim
