1. Connect your iPhone to iTunes.
2. Hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
3. After exactly 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10 seconds or until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. At this point, click OK, then click "Restore" in iTunes.

Might need an AT&T SIM card to activate

Iv just got a iphone 3g off ebay n its saying no signal n itunes wid a usb cable thats all it let me do

The iPhone 3G is compatible with the following frequencies.

  • UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
You may need to unlock this phone for it to support the frequency from your country.

The phone is asking to sync to itunes because it needs to be activated with your itunes account.

IPhone 3G Error 0xE8000001

Where did you purchase your phone? however, you first need to update itunes to 8.0.2, that might solve your problem. Unless you have an unlocked phone then restoring your phone is useless because when you restore an iphone with itunes in the US without an att sim card it will actually lock the phone, but I do not think that is your issue. the two things you are seeing the connect to itunes and the emergency call system means that your phone is not properly activated. which is done by connecting it to itunes.

IPhone 3G server problem

Apple had a problem with their servers during the iPhone 3G launch, they under estimated the number of people that will try to log into the iTunes server at once, as a result the server fall down.

If this is the error you get, when connecting to the iPhone 3G to iTunes server you can relax, your iPhone 3G is 100% OK.
