Not sure of the model number, but it's only about 2 years old.
We have noticed several times, during the night (with no person or animal in the room) the tv would be switched on when we woke up in the morning. On those occasions, it was tuned to a channel that we wouldn't have been watching when we turned it off the night before. Once, when returning home from work, the tv was off, but when I switched it on, it was full blast (it normally holds the volume that was being used when it was turned off). For the last 2 days, several times while watching tv, the channel has changed, the volume has gone up/down, muted, unmuted, etc. All while we were not touching the remote, but it was laying where we could see that it was not being manipulated. We have checked with the close neighbors to see if they are experiencing similar problems, because it seemed as if we were playing "dueling remotes" with someone. No one in the neighborhood is experiencing similar problems. It isn't constant, just intermittent throughout our tv watching time.

I do not know how old your tv is, but I can tell you that if it is more than a couple of years old, the back cover needs to be taken off and blown out with clean compressed air. If your tv has quiet cooling fans on the back, they are notorious in all plasmas and lcds 32" and above for attracting dust and lint from the ambient air. This along with moisture will cause the dust, lint and moisture to settle on critical components that cause tiny static discharges between components that can produce what you described. Another thing is and this is from my own experience is that even the tiniest pest like a roach or a spider, like I said depending on the age of the tv, can cause similar problems my traversing across the components. I had an RCA that would turn on by itself and change channels by itself. All in all the one thing you can do yourself is clean it out of all dust and debri. Good luck and God bless you. Robert
When you press power does the led light at all? That chassis has been plagued with bad flyback causing dead sets sometimes the led will flash 3 times slowly then go out. Other times it will make a soft short hiss. Does your set exhibit any of these signs?
Hi there!
Exterior equipment attached to a standard tv cannot cause the set to switch on/off by itself.
I think you may have a power supply fault or else loose solder connections on the board, hence the "warming up" intro before the fault shows itself.
My suggestion would be a service technician if you are not familiar with electronics or TV's. Regards, JUS004
I have the same RCA Tru Flat 27 inch (NON HD) TV I bought in December 2005.I am having Various problems with this TV ,First the sound is never stable ,Goes up and down constantly, also notice can only turn on thru remote, the front button doesnt work.Does anyone know if this is worth fixing (under 200)or should it just be trashed.
I had the same behavior, but not as a result of power outage. The TV is driven by windows CE software and it goes haywire every now and then. Usually pulling the plug for a few seconds takes care of any problems, but not this time (as you noticed). I had unplugged my ethernet connection on the TV a few weeks ago and thought I'd hook it up again to see if there was a new software release (not likely). I went to the menu and chose "Connections" and then chose "Ethernet Setup" and then chose "Reset All". After I closed the menu the TV rebooted itself (as it said it would). After my TV rebooted I had my analog channels back. There shouldn't be any connection between these two events, but it worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you as well. Good Luck!
