Question about Husqvarna Designer I

Husqvarna Viking Designer I (feed dogs will not lower)

Hi! I just bought a well loved Husqvarna Designer I from my local quilt shop today. I have been reading the manual and getting to know my new machine. It sews great, however I can not get the feed dogs to lower. I looked at the manual, took the extension bed off and flipped the little switch on the fron of the bed to the left, but nothing happens. I did this while the machine was on and also while it was off (the manual did not specify which was, so I tried both). Is this problem new operator error or is there something wrong with the feeddog lever. Thanks!

Its likely this machines feedogs have either never been lowered or not lowered for a long time. Thus the old oil has hardend and is causing the mechanism to freeze up. A tech would take the bottom cover off, follow the connections from the lowering knob, button or switch to the feeddogs and putting a bit of oil or penetrant on each moving connection. Don't force anything, gently tap where you beleive its sticking and turn, push or flip the switch, knob or button slowly bit by bit, back and forth until they drop. They will work loose then make sure they get a bit of oil again. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi, Free motion quilting is done with your programmed quilting stitches, Lower the feed dogs using the small white dial on the front of the machine behind the accessory tray, pick from one of the quilting stitches. they do make a free motion quilting tool ( I think they call it a hoop), but it just sets on top the material and helps you guide your material thru the machine. Hope this helps

Where do I lower the feed dogs on the Viking Iris machine so I can machine quilt?

Check the user manual, page 15. You can view, download, or print the manual from the viking website -
http://www.manuals.husqvarnaviking.com
There is a dial on the bottom of the free arm in the middle. The dial should be turned to left to drop feed dogs and to right to raise feed dogs.

I can not remember how to lower the feed dogs on my Husqvarna quilt designer and I can not find my manual

I think the Quilt Des. is the same as the Designer 1 (which is what I have) and the lower feed dogs is a serrated dial (looks like part of a circle sticking out of the machine) located on the lower front of the free arm about 2 inches to the right of in line with the needle. You turn the dial towards the left to lower the feed dogs and to the right to raise them.

I had this same problem, on my Designer Diamond. I blew it out with an air can and that didn't work, but then I decided to turn it off, then back on and start sewing a line in reverse. That seemed to fix it. My machine is working fine now.

Raise feed dog

I have a different model Viking with a feed dog button to the left of the power button. When it's pressed down, the feed dog stays in the "down" position. Press it again to bring the feed dog up.

How do I lower the feed dogs on my viking lily in order to use the walking foot for quilting

There is a switch the slides back and forth on the front of the machine at the throat below the needle plate but above the base (around the opening of the machine between the throat and the base). Slide it either left or right depending on where it is now. Otherwise, suggest you take it to an authorized husqvarna viking dealer for service. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com
Good luck.

Just bought a brand new Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0 and the top thread keeps getting shredded and breaking while doing free motion quilting. I've checked threading diagrams, changed to four different...

this is a known issue with the pfaff.....i have just bought the machine and it has thread uptake issues...thread tension issues and it comes unthreaded by itself often...leaving globs of thread on the bottom stuck in the feed dogs and under the throat plate.....then the stitches are not properly balanced because the tension gets too loose on the bobbin thread....very disappointed to find out it is a known issue with all the viking husqvarna made machines...which are pfaff, janome and viking.....sux.

Free motion quilting Viking Designer 1

I had the same dissatisfaction when I switched from the 1+ to the Designer 1. After some trials I am now happy. You need the springy free motion foot. Part #413 03 76-45. You take off the white shank and screw it on with the metal bar over the needle hook. In the set menu turn the SensorQ on, the free motion on, select stitch 1 from menu V and drop the feed dogs. It also makes a big difference to use the straight stitch throat plate which just has a small hole for the needle to go through. One other hint is that I often have to reduce my needle tension 3 or 4 steps. Hope it works for you.
