Flashing alarm and 'put in cartridge' Canon woe's

Problem with ink cartridge not being recognised, no information on align print head on Canon site, also posted in reply you made in March.
I have technical background but not electronics, if you need help with just about anything motorcycle related I can fix it

    Hey pj - sorry, out of town on family thing, I apologize. It sounds like that thing isn't that old and anything can go out on a printer but It's not like you've used 100 cartridges so it's doubtful. Do you have a manual? Could you do me a favor? I know you're technical and I hate to ask but I'd like you to look at the directions and follow them to the letter and let me know what happens. I'll include a link for the manual just in case you don't have one. Look at section 2 pg 12. Before you do unplug the printer for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. After it's done recycling follow the directions and let me know. I know you're no dummy but bare with me please. I'll check later because I don't see my last comment and I didn't get notified about yours but that was because you didn't sign in. The link for the manual is below if you don't have one. Thanks.

    Hey pj - did you replace with Canon cartridges or refill? Stupid question - but I have to ask, if you bought new cartridges did you remove the tape? ( I had to ask) What error message are you getting on your display? What happens if you press the stop button, does the error message stay there?

Mine is saying the same thing. I am about ready to throw it out the window. I ordered new ink and everything.

Hi, I tried hitting the stop button (well I pressed it, even though I felt like hitting it)
Nothing happened.
Using genuine cartridges, haven't tried a re-fill, tape is removed
Canon say the cartridge holder may be at fault but printer has barely had any use (do they die of old age?)
It just keeps flashing at me and message is 'put in cartridge'

I have an HP 2140 fax purchased one year ago. I have never replaced the catridge and have used the fax about once a month. Today I am trying to copy and it won't print. I cleaned the nozzle and still...


New cartridge wouldnt print but sounded like it was printing. You can check ink levels clean or align cartridge by pushing menu then tools. I cleaned contact points w qtip and alcohol. What seemed to work is putting alcohol on cartridge where ink is released and putting back into machine wet did this three times first time little dots of ink then a faint print and now it is printing must have been dried ink further then I could access.

How do I align the cartridge after I replace it. The fax printed out a sheet and the lines are not straight. I went to tools...to align cartridge and then I am not sure how to adjust the lines


Hi,

Follow below steps to complete alignment.

  • With the Cartridge compartment cover open, insert the print cartridge into the print cartridge cradle with the contacts facing into the unit. When the cartridge is seated in the print cartridge cradle, push the top of the cartridge towards the back of the unit until the print cartridge clicks into place.
  • Close the cartridge compartment cover and control panel.
  • Press the Start/Enter button.
  • On the keypad, press 1 if the replacement print cartridge is new or 2 if the replacement print cartridge is old
NOTE: When you put in a new cartridge, you must choose 1: New .When you put in a used cartridge, choose 2: Used . This helps you to check the correct amount of ink you have left.
  • An alignment page will print and 06 [01-11] will show on the display
  • Look at the alignment page and select the number under the straightest line, and then press that number on the keypad and then press Start/Enter .

Try keeping the paper only in the bottom tray (there's a tray in the bottom) Try pulling any paper out of the top and just close that top tray. Open up the head so that u can see the ink cartridges and turn the printer on and off and maybe it will center itself again. If it's still not working (even if lights aren't red and print head wont align in the center) try manually moving the head back and forth like 18 times so you can lubricate that rail in the back that's holding it. After that, re-turn it off and on again.

No not yet,the problem is the cartridge,sometimes even new cartridges might have a dry printhead
Remove you cartridge,put the printhead side in about 5mm of hot water and keep it there for 5 minutes,take it out and do head cleanning again.

remove the cartridge and see if it goes away, if does then you probably have a defective cartridge are are not inserting it correctly.

Nothing there


Did you try cleaning the print cartridge nozzles.

Press Function once and up arrow 2 times
Press the right arrow once and the up arrow once
Press the right arrow once
Press Start/Memory button
It will print a test parttern page

Once you insert the new cartridge did the machine recognize the new cartridge? You had to press 1 for new

When 1 is selected you will get a prompt New Cart: OK?
OK press start.

If you selected NEW the display will show the alternating messages at right. Align Cartridge----1 Print 2 Set

Press 1 to print an alignment page

Hopefully, it will printed. Let me know one way or the other.
