A lot of the models have a threaded spin on knob w/rh threads. Just like a standard bolt. hold the shaft/wheel and rotate the knob counter clock wise to take off.

Hi, I have a Maytag Centennial washer. We recently experienced a power surge in our home. The washer does everything it should - except cycle. Could this be the time motor? Thank you! David

depending on your washer model it is most likely in some events of a power surge that the timer knob could be damaged and need of replacement

Removing timer knob on maytag washer mav2755aww

It unscrews or if it is a newer model, remove the console so you can tip it forward. You will see a (usually black or white) pin in the center of the timer, pull it out about and inch and then remove the knob from the front by pulling it off the timer shaft. Check you new timer and make sure it comes with one. So did some did not. Good luck.

We have this washer and it works fine until the spin cycle. It won't spin unless you hold down the knob on top. Do we need a new knob?

Hi,
Behind that knob is a timer....the switch in that timer is bad and will only make contact when you hold it down.

Replace the timer and you will be good...

Switch on washer stops at rinse. I have to twist to spin for it to spin. What might be the problem

It would appear that your timer is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Typically when a timer starts to wear out, over time, the plastic steps that are part of the timing sequence can wear down and cause the washer to malfunction.

If you can hear the time motor running but it doesn't ever go into the rinse cycle, then it is most likely the timer motor that is the issue.

If you want to get an idea of the cost for obtaining a replacement timer, you can go to www.searspartsdirect.com and enter in your complete washer model number into their parts search and then select the "control" link to see a line drawing and parts list for your washer.

Since you didn't provide a model number for your washer, I'll give you the generic instructions for doing the replacement. Again, with the sears link above, you'll be able to see the location and mounting method of the timer on your washer.

This is an easy repair for anyone to undertake, just be sure to unplug the washer from the power outlet before you attempt it. First, remove the timer knob from the front of the washer simply by pulling it straight off. then with either a socket wrench or nut driver, remove the nut and lock washer that holds the timer onto the panel.

Now remove the screws on the backside of the control panel so you can get at the timer. remove any mounting screws/hardware that holds the timer on the panel. Once you've done that, you can just unplug the wiring harness from the faulty timer and plug it into the new one. Now just remount the timer, put the back panel cover back on and fasten the timer shaft with the lock washer and nut, put the timer knob back on and give it a try.

That should get your washer back working properly. I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Maytag Washing Machine Cycles Out of Sync with Dial

ive fixed lots off washers over the years[15,000 service calls] and was careful while taking parts off if i wasn't fulmilure with that model, but most timers and knobs have a key way so the knob can only go on one way.if thats not true for you, try this.turn the timer shaft till the washer is at the end of the wash cycle.[finished the load,it would be the final spin ,maybe five minutes long.when thats done the timer advances to off]now knowing that thats an off position set on your knob and then manuly turn it to the off position of the next cycle if it wont run you did it. if not you will have to go to the end of that cycle and remove knob and set to next notch in the knob, until you find the sweet spot.hope this helps God bless, tom

Removing Timer Knob on Maytag MDE7400AYW dryer

Can anyone help me? I have a Maytag Atlantis that my parents just gave me and my wife. Unfortunately, they accidently removed the model number sticker in the door area. I need to buy a new timer but no one can find which timer to get without the model number. Via the internet, I think I narrowed it down to either the MDE7400AYQ or the MDE7400AYW....but they both look identical to me. Can anyone tell me what the difference between the two is so I can go get the part?
