Question about Canon Digital Cameras

1 Answer

Hi I needed to change the batteries of my PowerShot A540 and foolishly did this without turning the camera off first. It is now 'frozen' in the act of trying to retract the lens. It won't turn on. All that happens when I try to turn it on is that the green light on the top briefly goes on. What should I do? Thanks. Mike Workman

actually that is a mistake of changing the batteries with out turniig off.

this would make the camera unit to confuse between its ON and OFF states.

try turning ON the camera again and again.

and try gently push and pull then lens with your fingers(don't be hard)

if this works you may be lucky.

else you will have to take it to a service only.

you don't have any other option here in this case.

if you take it to service center they will dis-assemble he unit and reset the lens assembly and flash the camera memory and then make the unit work again.

    thank you

    hope my solution is clear.

Problem with my rechargeble battery with my Canon Powershot A540.

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Flashing indicator lights when treying to power on my a540

Hi there, I can help you with that. Do this:

Turn the camera off.
Take out the batteries for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, put the batteries back in (or get a fresh set).
Then turn the camera back on.

Let me know if that helps or not with a comment. If it helps, feel free to rate my answer accordingly. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

Problem with Canon digital camera PowerShot A540

This has nothing to do with removing the battery. This problem is common in digital cameras especially canon. There are a few things you can try

1: Place the camera flat onits back on a table, pointed at the ceiling. Press and hold the shutterbutton down, and at the same time press the power-on button. The ideais that the camera will try to autofocus while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens barrel guide pins in their slots.

2:Blow compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the ideaof blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens.Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in “no heat”setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum (careful with this one).

And the third fix. Well there is some potential of damagin the camera but may people have reported to have got it working by a systematic whacking procedure.

Green Light Turns on, Sound of turning on, lens comes out, but then goes back in a turns off. . .It's not the batteries. PLEASE HELP ME!

Note that some batteries just don't hack it in digital cameras, even if new. This is especially true for those "super heavy duty" batteries:
