Question about Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Bagged Upright Vacuum
My Hoover Wind Tunnel Bagged Vacuum is about 18 months old and used maybe once every couple of weeks. the on/off switch has totally quit working. the only way to turn it on/off is to unplug. Ideas???
Replace the rocker switch inside the handle. Part #28161067, it's about $2.50.

Take the two screws out, and pull the handle towards you. If you are behind the vacume grab both sides of where you took the screws out, then pull it towards you. It does slide out.

This happens all the time on our vacuum. Just remove the handle and switch the button manually inside. You will have to do this from time to time as the power switch on the outside will constantly stop working. This, along with the belt replacements are the common complaints on this machine.

Heres what I did. Took the upper handle off and you'll see the plastic assembly that actually runs across the on/off switch. Using a small screw with a large head. I pre-drilled a hole at an angel at the spot that runs across the buttons, screwed the screw in place. Now it uses the head of the screw as the contact to the button. It did eventually stop working and I simply took the screw out and put a wider washer than the screw head on the screw. Put it back in place and viola.

This is a pretty old topic but here is what I did to fix my problem. After I took the handle off I was able to activate the internal switch - it turned the sweeper on and off as it should. Rather than installing a new switch, I decided to see if I could get the arm that activates the switch to be a little more stiff. I stacked three, inch round felt furniture pads (for a wooden chair on a ceramic floor). I smashed them down by standing on them and wedged them behind the arm that activates the internal switch. This pushes the arm forward enough to turn the sweeper off. It has worked for about 5 or 6 times. I hope it lasts for a while.
