    1. Make sure your GPS is in GARMIN interface mode. For older Garmin
units, use GRMN/GRMN HOST WAITING mode.

    2. Make sure you are using the correct serial port on your computer.
For most computers, COM1 is the serial port. Consult your computer
    manual for help.

    3. Make sure the serial cable is firmly connected to the GPS and to
the computer. If you have the Garmin eTrex cable, be sure the cable
is pushed ALL THE WAY into the slot on the back of your GPS.

    4. Verify that you have a working cable connection by updating your
GPS firmware. You can do this even if your firmware is already
up-to-date. Follow the instructions at If you cannot update your
GPS firmware, contact Garmin tech support for assistance.

Please send the EasyGPS_Message_Log.txt file after running the program. The EasyGPS_Message_Log.txt file is created and reset each time you run the program, so be sure to send it immediately after an error occurs. You will find it in the folder where EasyGPS.exe is installed. C:/Program Files/EasyGPS/ is the default location.

    Hope that helps.....

I have problem with my Binatone Carrera x350SB

Here's a url the site for your device:-

Click on the support tab at the top, you should see options for downloads for updates, upgrades and instructions.

In your place I'd first make sure the device is fully charged, turn on then (pictured in the instructions) press and hold in the reset button for a slow count of 15, release and let it go through the reset procedure.

After this, its a case of updating the firmware and/or contacting the support staff.

No access to free map or traffic updates. Plugged in traffic accessory that came with the unit, and it tells me that the accessory is not compatible with the unit. The serial number on the bottom of the...

If the Garmin Nuvi is sold with "life-time updates" for maps & traffic - updates are available for download at once they are available.

A "life-time update" is coupled to the serial number of the Garmin unit. If the serial number does not match the box with "life-time updates" on it - it could be the Garmin Nuvi came from another box without "life-time updates".

Without "life-time updates" - maps are available for free within 60 days after purchase. A "purchase" is registered by the Garmin device if it detects a certain speed or when it's registered at - meaning the 60 day countdown starts. Without a "life-time update" for traffic - a traffic subscription must be bought for a country & timeframe. (ie a year).

It sounds like you have an older gps, as I've heard of this problem before. First, check that you don't have any music or pictures stored on your device internally, these take up a lot of space. If you do, delete them and try updating again. If you don't have any media, then check to see if you have an sd card slot on the side, as I believe you can download updates onto a card itself. If none of this helps, then there is a way to reset the gps itself, but you would consequently lose all of your waypoints.

I dont have disc for GNS 8365 how can i get map updates? Can i update with out the disc Can i get free downloads or do i need 2 pay. thank you for yr help

The supplied SD memory card can be connected, with use of an SD card reader (not supplied) to a PC for updating the navigation software or uploading media files. The updates would be available at the Uniden website, but there don't appear to be any as they have discontinued that model. The SD card uses the FAT16 file format, so Windows will probably not be able to read & write to it without additional software.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa! We would sure appreciate a 4 "thumbs-up" rating for this FREE answer. Happy holidays!

Downloaded updates and now it only goes to "no maps found" screen and does not respond to taps.

Newer maps are not readable by older device software. Please upgrade your TomTom application to the latest version.
  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of TomTom HOME installed.
    • If TomTom HOME is already installed click on Help > Check for TomTom HOME Update.
    • If you do not have TomTom HOME installed, you can download the program
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. Open TomTom HOME.
  4. If updates are not offered automatically, click on Update my device.
  5. Download all available updates, restart your device and then reconnect your device to the computer.
  6. When the updates have finished installing use Device > Disconnect Device.
  7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 until the update window shows 'No Items Available'.
Now that you are up to date with your application, check to see if the device still displays the NoMaps Found error under normal operation.,170&p_prods=&p_cats=&p_pv=&p_cv=&p_search_type=&p_search_text=no+maps+found&p_nav=foot&p_page_foot=5

Go to the Holux support website at:

NOTE: All quote marks are added by me for emphasis only.

Under the "Select products Catagory" dropdown choose "GPS Receiver/Data Logger".
Under the "Select products series" dropdown choose "Mouse Type GPS Receiver" and

click on Submit. A new page opens showing various receivers. Scroll down to the GR-213u

GPS Receiver and see the one called "GR-213u Driver Program-Vista Driver". It is of a type

of file compression called "rar" which may require a unzip program. I use a free program,

"Secure Zip for Windows". Click on the little yellow box at the far right of the "GR-213u

Driver Program-Vista Driver" line. It will be labeled "9618869.rar". Save the file.
It should be found by clicking on the Vista START and then your user name & should be in

the "Downloads" folder as "9618869.rar".
Creat a new folder for the actual unzipped file by clicking on the the Vista START Icon

& then "Documents". Click on the "Organize" tab & then on the dropdown "New Folder".
Name the new folder "Holux Vista Drvr" & then open it.
Now back at the "Downloads" folder open (Unzip) the "9618869.rar" file. Copy the new

folder "GR-213u Driver Program-Vista Driver" to the "Holux Vista Drvr" folder you created

in "Documents", so that you can later delete all those files that may have built up in

"Downloads"folder from doing lots of downloading.
Open the "GR-213u Driver Program-Vista Driver" folder & see the setup file

"PL2303_Prolific_Vista_3301.exe". The size should be about 2724 KB. Open it to start the

driver install. Now you are almost done.
After Vista has done its driver install, go to "Control Panel" & open "Device Manager".

Now plug in your Holux GR-213 & the "Device Manager" should now show a new entry

called "Ports (COM & LPT). Click on the little + sign to expand it & you should see

"Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM#)". The # represents your Comm Port number

used by the Holux. Right click on "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM#)" & click on

the dropdown "Properties". Click on the tab "Port Settings"at the top of the "Properties"

window. Change the value in "Bits per second" from 9600 to 4800 & click OK.
Hopefully you have installed the Holux Utility "GPS Viewer" with a shortcut on the

desktop. Open the "GPS Viewer" & click on "Scan". A new window "GPS Scanning" opens

showing GPS found at the same Comm Port # that shows in the "Device Manager". Click on

OK & the scan window closes now showing the same Comm Port#. Click on "Open GPS" &

then on "Cold Start or Warm Start" & all the satellites found should show up. You can close

the "GPS Viewer" & all the other open windows. If all went as described any software you

used with Win XP using GPS should work OK now with Vista.
Now run your software (MS S&T or whatever) & make sure its GPS Settings show the same

Comm Port# as in "GPS Viewer" & baud rate of 4800.

How to update softwrae

The simplest thing to do is as follows: Go to the following website-

Follow the instructions from there which state:

WebUpdater is a free application that lets you update your unit software from home. Download it once at the link below, and you can check for and install software updates without using your Internet web browser. Simply run WebUpdater from your computer, and it will do all of the work for you.
Step 1: Download and Install WebUpdater Click the link above to download WebUpdater. Next follow the screen prompts to install the application on your pc. If you have already installed WebUpdater on your computer, skip to step 2.
WebUpdater updates most Garmin products, excluding Palm and Pocket PC devices, fixed-mount marine units, chartplotters, fishfinders and certain discontinued units we no longer support. It does not perform Beta updates. WebUpdater only updates unit software. See our All Updates & Downloads web page for related utilities, drivers, add-ons and the unit software for the excluded units mentioned above.

Step 2: Connect GPS to PC and Run WebUpdater After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater".

Hope this helps.
