For the second time now, my screen is black in picture taking mode. It all of the sudden started working, but it's doing it again.

The screen is black when the camera is turned on and ready to take a picture. I can review pictures that have already been taken but cannot take new ones.

I find it strange that all of sudden people are having the same issues. Makes me think Sony programmed these things to blow up just before holiday season 08.

last night it was working just fine and now i tried to turn it on and am eperiencing the same problems as these people!

  • dstuart Dec 19, 2008

I have the same thing. I can view old pictures, but not take new ones, only black. I didn't drop it or anything, i just turned it on one day and it did this!

  • jennchen01 Dec 20, 2008

i have the same problem too! i was playing around with my camera the other day, going through the different settings, and now when i try to take a picture, the lcd screen is black. the picture turns out fine, but it's a huge pain to look through the viewfinder, since it doesn't give an accurate example of how the picture will turn out. at first i thought that i might have accidentally changed the setting and can't get it back to the original, but now i'm thinking it may be a problem with the camera.

I also have the same problem. My camera was fine for Thanksgiving and when I pulled it out for Christmas it had a black screen and wouldn't take any photos.

same problem with my Nikon S210. Black screen and no picture can be taken even thoug shutter clicks as norma! can view old pictures, but not take any new ones.

Neither the picture or the movie screen work. They just stay black. It acts like it is working...I even get audio on my video...but no pictures. I see a lot of people with this issue, how do we solve it?

I think my daughter dropped our dcm-fx3. It now has the black screen when I try to take pictures. I can do playback, though. Any idea what part is likely broken and what it would cost to fix it?

My DSC W80 also had a black screen and I could not figure it out. I do not know if this will work for you, but it brought my picture back. I went to Menu in Camera Mode, placed Face Detection on and took a picture or two. The grid was annoying so I turned it off even though it would give me the picture. Once off, the picture remained. It could go back to not working as others have said, but for now I have my picture back.

I was having the black screen problem intermittently (of course when you really want to take a picture quickly). I downloaded v1.1 of the firmware from olympus (via the Olympus Master 2 program) and the black screen problem has not reoccurred yet. Hasn't been tested over a long period of time yet, but that seemed to fix it.

Canon eos rebel xsi has black screen while taking pics.It shows the pic afterwards and shows the menu so the screen works but shows black screen while taking a pic

I think it is because the camera has a sensor. The screen turns off so as not to distract you or let light from the screen bother you while taking a shot. You can check this in the manual.

Nothing or black screen shows up when pic is taken

The problem is with the software in the camera! So take your camera to the nearby service center and do a format of your camera! That will fix your problem. Also check whether there is any problem in ur LCD screen!

Sony DSC-T1 screen is black. Does not recognize

There may be the issue with the CCD (Image Sensor Device) of the Camera. This is a known issue with this Camera.

Refer this article to confirm this:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=DSCT1&news_id=161

Check whether the LCD screen of the Camera looks similar as given on the page.

If yes, click on the "Yes" button at the end of the page to create an online Repair Request for sending the Camera to the Sony Factory Service Center.
