Hmmm... not sure why this is posted as a washing machine problem, but I'll give it a try. Connect the converter box just ahead of the hot water intake, and be sure to bond it to the drain line just to be on the safe side... just kidding! You might want to re-post as a tv question so the right people see it.

Water leaks into the washer all the time, i have hard water and i think the valve that allows water into the washer is not shuting off all the way. how do i replace it?

I have had the valve get stuck and not close on either cold/hot side. You will have to replace the valve. You will have to pop off the top and its fairly easy to see where the valve is because the hose connections are tied directly into it.

Can 3431 be converted to a regular vented dryer?

You cannot convert this model. This unit blows hot air into drum and the water is turned to steam and exhausted out through the pump to the drain. Unlike regular dryers that blow hot air into drum, creating link and just heat that blow out vent.

Make sure that the drain hose is connected correctly, and that there isn't a direct run down from the sink u-bend to the washing machine. This can allow some of the dirty water running down the sink to run down the drain hose into the washing machine. A drain hose that is connected to a sink u-bend should first go up at least 3 or 4 inches high (it may need tying up) before running down to the washing machine. Good luck
