i have a similar problem.  The LCD monitor is dark/blank even though it displays operation symbols and it shows the pictures taken in Playback Mode. It won't take pictures.  I have gone thru the whole Camera User Guide and nothing has worked.

    same problem

I have the same problem. Camera is 2.5 years old and it's never been bumped, dropped, heated, frozen. There's not a scratch on the housing or display. TLC since first use. One day upon turning on the camera, I saw the screen was black. Otherwise it appeared that all other functions were OK. Icons, menus displayed OK. Even the flash worked OK. Canon wants $92 to repair and ship the camera. They did offer a good deal on a trade-in, but whether I get mine repaired or get a refurbished similar model, I don't think I can trust the reliability. I don't want take a chance missing once in lifetime photo opportunities. I'm extremely disappointed Canon isn't fixing this for free given the common nature of the problem as indicated by various blogs. I'm in the market for an SLR and although Canon was my first choice I'm now reconsidering other top name brands.

LCD SCREEN WILL NOT DISPLAY POWER SHOT A620

From my experience, there is a setting on your camera (to preserve battery) that makes the screen black. There is probably nothing wrong with your camera, you just need to find the DISPLAY button and push it until you see the image on your screen.

If you do not have a manual for your camera, you can download one here:

Hope this helps!

Canon A620 is taking black images/ Can't see images on screen

First try pressing the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. If that didn't fix it... A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Black screen

Simply right click on the track itself and select send to/DVD-RW or CR-RW depending on the type Compact disc drive you have. Then you will see a notification, "you files to be written to CD." Simply click on it or go to your Compact disc drive on My Computer and click “write these files to CD.” Then follow the screen instructions. IT is that simple. All you need to do is press and release the display button until the screen displays. Usually Canon Powershot cameras have 3 display modes:- colour, black & white, blank. Your camera is set to blank that is why you cannot see any image/screen displays no image. Just press and release the display button until the screen displays. That should do it.

Lcd screen is black can't take new pictures

Hi Guys, My A620 is almost out of warranty :-{ and the lcd went blank. Could still take pictures and view them, just couldn't see them on the lcd screen. After looking through all of these trouble shooting pages, someone on another page suggested to reset settings, manual pg 28. Or on the camera switch on, Menu, go into tools scroll down till you reach rest all and ok. Doesn't clear pics already on there, and mine now works fine :-) phew. Good luck xx
