You can download your modem driver by clicking here. Select the link by choosing the backup download server location. Make sure that you have Winzip installed in your computer for this is a ZIP file.
Can you go to the D-Link website and research the drivers for your modem? There might be updates to them as well. The Web location is at http://www.dlink.com/ and put your exact modem model in.
Depends on your system, install modem first then the system should ask for drivers. Make sure your dial up modem drivers are appropriate to your operating system. Try the modem in a different slot, some modems are not compatible with some motherboards. If the My Computer/System/Device Manager can't see the modem, you have to try another modem or slot. Then install or Update drivers once the system sees it and will show Properties of it.

Your problem is that when you re-installed Vista, the drivers for the laptop devices (eg video, LAN, modem etc) was not installed. You need to download then and install them before your devices will operate. You may already have these drivers on your Recovery disk, if not then download them.
You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop. This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model laptop are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the driver for your Windows operating system. If it has a pci slot modem card then you would go to the modem card manufacturer's website to download the driver. You'll need to know the manufacturer & model # of your card to do this. Once on the website you will click the support link, lookup your card model #, & then download & install the proper drivers for the operating system you are running. Hope this helps.
if you go to acer.com and look for your model number of your laptop you will be able to download the requred drivers if not sure what to download post model number back here and will send you link to correct location for your drivers
