Try to open and close the disc tray without a disc and turn it off. Turn it back on and open tray and insert disc. If it still has the problem look into a simple fix on this video.

The video is kinda grainy but it does what it needs. Let me know if you have any questions or need parts.

My 360 dose not read discs but it dose spin them

Disc Error :- I have the same error. You can do 4 things.

A) You have to keep turning it on and off. Here's how... Turn it on, then click open tray then close tray ( keep opening and closing tray about 10 times) then turn the console off. Then keep repeating process for about 15-20 minutes and eventually the game disc will show up. ( I have to do this every time)

B) Make sure that this is covered by Microsof't's RROD warranty. Then some how get teh red rings on this console and send it to Microsoft. (Note: I am not held responsible for your actions.)

C) This is a lens problem. So go out to a store and buy a DVD lens cleanser. It's a disc that cleans the lenses of the DVD or the XBOX.

D) Open it up and replace the lens (like the above guy said) (much harder and more costly).

Pls rate my solution if it did help thanks.

It only plays Normal Xbox games

The open tray and unplayable disc is because the lens isn't strong on the drive and needs to have a Pot calibration done to it to make the lens signal stronger. That should fix the open tray/unplayable disc issue. I have done this to quite a few drives and all have been working fine since.

Xbox does not read discs.

Getting to the dashboard screen is a good thing but still cannot rule out a bad circuit board or power supply. All the symptoms point to a bad DVD drive but the opening/closing by itself do indicate a problem with the microprocessor. Can you turn the power on and off with the small button?? If not, would definitely suspect bad board.
